Warhorse -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (5/29/2014 8:21:51 PM)

This is being fixed for the upcoming patch, however, start up the game, go to campaigns, resume, you can keep going. The code for the DCG's is a mess!!

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/1/2014 9:14:04 PM)

When I try to make a scenario file, I consistently get "Invalid format."

I make the map and organization files first, and then I try the scenario editor, I go to "files" and "new," but I keep getting "invalid format." Any ideas?

Crossroads -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/2/2014 4:30:12 AM)

The new dynamic day/night and visibility format?

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3500163

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/3/2014 1:15:51 AM)

Thanks! That appears to be it. The new format for "turns" and "visibility" has to be followed or the game will balk with the "invalid format" message.

I think it's a great addition. I'm really impressed. I was wondering where the "night" button went.

I can't believe how much work you all have put into this game. Many thanks!

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/7/2014 5:03:32 PM)

This isn't so much a problem as a request for advice.

I initially downloaded 2.01 and installed it over 2.00. I then had second thoughts and tried Berto's suggestion and renamed that folder "John Tiller's Campaign Series 2.00." I then reinstalled 1.00, downloaded 2.01, and installed it for a clean installation under "John Tiller's Campaign Series."

I don't know whether to go back to "John Tiller Campaign Series 2.00" and clean it up or leave it be. That is, make it a clean 2.00 or 2.01. Right now it has both. I checked on uninstalling for the purpose of reinstalling, but I was directed to download other software for the purpose of uninstalling, and I was reluctant to download anything because I'm confused basically.

Any suggestions?

On another topic, I tried the mods, and I was impressed with how simple it was to put them into the game and take them out. The manual is excellent for walking a person through that. I used the "John Tiller Campaign Series 2.00" to experiment with the mods in case I messed something up.

Crossroads -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/7/2014 7:19:01 PM)

I believe the installer / uninstaller only expects one instance of the game in place, so when you uninstall the last install you did is removed.

I decided to have a clean slate again, so I uninstalled to get any registry entries removed, deleted the remaining folders, and started afresh. First, 1.0 into place, then copy pasted that and named it 1.04. Then installed1.04 there.

Then lastly, installed 2.01 on the original 1.0 folder that used the default install name.

But if you need only one install, there is no need to all these steps. Just uninstall, delete the remaining content, start anew.

On another topic, yes, using mod folders is so much easier now innit? [:)]

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/7/2014 9:27:31 PM)

Thanks! My understanding is that I cannot simply delete "John Tiller's Campaign Series 2.00." I have to uninstall. Only after uninstalling can I delete "John Tiller's Campaign Series 2.00" folder in its entirety. Then I would follow the procedure you set out. Reinstalling with clean patches and no overlapping patches.

I haven't uninstalled anything yet. When I hit the uninstall in "John Tiller's Campaign Series 2.00," I'm directed to the internet to download some other software. I haven't downloaded any software. It seems like I should be able to uninstall without downloading any software. If I understand you correctly, it's because I have two installations that I cannot uninstall.

I'll give this some more thought. I think I'd like a clean installation.

EDIT LATER THAT EVENING: The manual helps again. It says to use the Add/Remove Programs option form the Windows Control Panel to uninstall the game. I found that, but there's only one listing for John Tiller's Campaign Series. The date of installation is the older one -- the one I patched both version 2.00 and 2.01 onto. I'm assuming if I executed the uninstall, it would remove the older one only. Or would it remove both?

STILL LATER: One of the consequences of installing both patch 2.00 and 2.01 is the inability to save an on-going game. When I have a little more time, it looks like I'll use the Window Control Panel and to uninstall, although I'm not sure what exactly it'll uninstall. I guess the worse case scenario is I start from scratch.

MUCH LATER: The uninstall successfully uninstalled . . . the 2.01 clean version but not the mixed 2.00/2.01 version. On a positive note, I was able to save games on the mixed 2.00/2.01 version again. It took me a while, but I've got one clean 2.01 version now. I'll leave it for tomorrow whether to try to have a 2.00 version. I'm tired.

The game looks great. It's just plain fun. The sky is the limit for creating scenarios. Great support. I hope the game sticks around. I remember how disappointed I was when the TalonSoft versions no longer worked as computers advanced. I also remember how elated I was to discover Matrix was picking up the title. Many thanks.

Yes, it uninstalled the last install you've done. Now the registry entries are gone too, you can manually delete any folders and/or files there are remaining. Do put aside any custom scenario files you've downloaded first.

Then, having deleted the old folders, install 1.00, then 2.01. That's it.

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/12/2014 2:55:23 AM)

When I bring up the unit box, there's a column that used to show all that unit's unique abilities, like whether it could lay smoke or provide indirect fire. Except for HQ symbols, I don't see any of those symbols any more. On the other hand, when I press the F2 button, there's a list of the unit's unique abilities. Is this the way it is supposed to work now? Or should I still have those symbols in the left column of the unit box?

Jason Petho -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/12/2014 4:14:21 AM)

All the unit capabilities have moved to the F2 screen.

That's the problem. In that small space, there was never room enough to show them all. Most unit abilities were never displayed there. Which is why they were moved to the F2 Unit Handbook display.

See Coder Diary #7 -- Morale Modifiers, Unit Capabilities, and More.

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/12/2014 3:04:03 PM)

Thanks! An eminently good and practical solution.

Regarding the F2 button and unit information, one of the things I liked best about Campaign Series way back when it first appeared was the information giving the history about the unit. I don't know who did all the research, but it added immeasurably to the game.

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/12/2014 11:45:40 PM)

I was trying to get the "read me" file for the WF night scenarios pulled up, and I designated adobe, but adobe can't read it, and now I don't know how to convert the file to anything else -- or what else to convert it to. In the process, all the other "read me" files were converted to adobe, which means all my "read me" files are presently unreadable. They were all converted into adobe, but adobe can't read any of them. Any suggestions?

Re WF night scenarios, it's been so long, I don't remember the history, but I think WF was the first CS to issue, and it had a primitive night scenario format. Then came EF, and I'm not sure if it improved on the night scenario format. Then came RS, and my recollection is it definitely had an improved night scenario format, and sometime down the line it was incorporated into EF but never into WF until now. Is that how it went?

Jason Petho -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/13/2014 12:33:23 AM)

Which files were you trying to read exactly, and where are they?

1925frank -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/13/2014 2:13:58 AM)

The file I was trying to open was "wf_night_scn_readme" found in the "John Tiller's Campaign Series" folder, but it relates to the "Mods" subfolder. Three other "readme" files in the "John Tiller's Campaign Series" folder (but also relating to the "Mods" folder) were affected as well: "blitz_h2h_readme"; "rs_unit_bases_readme"; and "wf_unit_bases_readme."

When I tried to open it, I was given the option of downloading something from the web or using something already on my computer, and Adobe was already on my computer, so I used that. Adobe can't read it, and my attempts to return the files to their original format have been unsuccessful. They're currently stuck with Adobe's insignia on them, and every time I try to open them, Adobe tells me it can't.

I could always uninstall and reinstall. I know how to do that now. But I still wouldn't know how to open the "readme" files.

simovitch -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (6/13/2014 2:49:48 AM)

Not sure about those readme files you mention, they might be formatted for the JSGME mod manager.

The readme file is wf-night scenario coversion.txt found in C:\Matrix Games\John Tiller's Campaign Series\Mods\WF - Night Scenarios\West Front.

nick2 -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (7/4/2014 9:24:29 PM)

I am playing east front campaign dynamic and when I upgrade to regiment and try to start battle it says there is an error due to not being able to find Russian regiment size. It then kicks me out again and I have to press begin campaign 5 or 6 times before it lets me progress. Is there a fix? Thanks.

Jason Petho -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (7/6/2014 2:32:19 AM)

No, there isn't.

It will be remedied with the 2.10 UPDATE that will be released in 2016.

The issue is that there may not be a Russian Regiment to find, it is more than likely a Brigade at that level or organization.

Darino -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (7/13/2014 4:50:03 AM)

I got the same thing Nick got. While i was VERY happy to see a new patch (to me that means the game is still popular and people play as much as I! yay!), does this mean I cant play a campaign series until 2016?? oh no!

berto -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (7/13/2014 11:55:02 AM)

This "bug" only applies to some, but not all, East Front DCGs of a certain size. We are preparing a 2.02 Update release that should soon remedy the situation.

scottintacoma -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (7/13/2014 1:39:38 PM)

Actually with future updates, I think that XP support will be gone, so you will have to be running Win 7 or 8.

Darino -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (7/13/2014 7:21:08 PM)

Thanks Berto...I will await, patiently, for the update. I got the game back in the late 90's and still have the original manuals, so I guess you could say I am a diehard.

mariogigio -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/13/2014 1:44:49 PM)

Hi. I'm experiencing troubles with Western front Afrikacorps. I've been promoted to German Division Commander (5 light division) but the mission didn't start.

Ad alert box appears stating WEST FRONT.EXE [ERROR ID 1000] UNITALLOCATOR .CPP, LINE 949, CUNITALLOCATOR: BUILD FORCE ()) FOR NATION GREAT BRITAIN, LEVEL BRIGADE, UNABLE TO GET STARTING ORG

pressing OK another box appears ...etc LINE 886 buildforce() returns null, unable to create forces

pressing OK two more boxes appear relating to errors at line88 and 355. Then the program exits.

the problems should be solved? I hope so.

Jason Petho -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/13/2014 10:31:35 PM)

Unfortunately, the program is looking for British Brigades and is only finding regiments. Hence the crash.

As part of the 2016 fixes, the campaign OOB's will be revised and corrected.

Jason Petho

mariogigio -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/14/2014 7:12:10 AM)

... but i'm playing in german Afrikacorps and non in British Army!
Moreover, the problem arises when promoting from Regiment Leader to Division (or Brigade, maybe) Leader.
Wuold you mean that when playing (withe the exception of British) starting from Batallion the maximum I could aspire is to be a Regiment Leader? This seems to be quite strange...

Kindly regards

LM

Jason Petho -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/14/2014 11:55:40 AM)

Your opponent is British, hence the issue.

Jason Petho

Tidavis -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/21/2014 6:50:06 PM)

mariogigio. I have a question for you. Well maybe more. The error line states it could not build a Brigade level force for the British but you state that you had just gotten a promotion to Division Commander.

Do you still have the .ccd and the .org files for that DCG? I would like to take a look at them.

WRT to solving the British Brigade level problem. For this specific DCG open up the British Regiment 009.OOB Find a Regiment that is present for the whole time period covered in the DCG. Now copy the entry into the British Brigade 009.OOB and change the R to G. Next do a find to make sure that number is not already used. If it is just search for a number that is not used and use that number.

Save the file. This will give the campaign builder something to use when it starts up. Plus here now there is bug somewhere in the old code that will cause the campaign builder to erroneously report that error message.

Try again it will work.

Warhorse -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/21/2014 11:27:09 PM)

Thanks for stepping up, Tim![&o]

Tidavis -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/22/2014 1:33:29 PM)

After taking a look at the Afrika Corps DCG Campaign file it will not be a quick fix. There are no Orgs for this level that are present for the whole campaign.

One needs to be built from Company level with appropriate platoon upgrades. Not hard just a pain in the rear.

Tidavis -> RE: Are you having Campaign Problems? (11/24/2014 3:32:06 AM)

Wrong again. It was a quick fix. Since neither the Germans or the British had any "brigade sized" units for terms sake present in the campaign, that is a level higher than regiment and lower than division not much in the way of a fix is needed.

Where the problem is coming from is that the Germans have a "brigade sized" org available within its Campaign01.OOB.

All that is needed to fix this small problem is a Campaign01.OOB that only has the Afrika Corps present. Here you go. Rename your Campaign01.OOB to a backup file and put this in its place and you should have no more "caused" problems with the "cannot build org" error.

Rename this file from .txt to .OOB
