For a quick reference I have an old book called 'Aircraft of WW2' by Ian Allan (1972). About 450 pages, devotes one picture and a page or two of text to main types, a picture and half a page to minor types, and just a few lines per prototype, experimental plane, very minor types or planes developed during the war but not finished in time to see service. Not much detailed info, just some words on history, use, variants and numbers built plus some very basic tech infos. But great for a quick reference, if you just want to know what the heck was a Tschetwerikow Tsche-6 (a Russian Flying Boat) or Mitsubishi K3M (IJN trainer, code name 'Bine') or other obscure planes of WW2.
