Anyone have a recommendation on a good aircraft reference/encyclopedia for wwii a/c? Checked out "The Encyclopedia of Aircraft" from the library and while it is great format, with good info and pics, it is frustrating wading through the other 95 years of aircraft history to find what I want. Its heavy too.

I know there is tons of stuff on Internet, but I just like books.

Thanks,
Jam

For a quick reference I have an old book called 'Aircraft of WW2' by Ian Allan (1972). About 450 pages, devotes one picture and a page or two of text to main types, a picture and half a page to minor types, and just a few lines per prototype, experimental plane, very minor types or planes developed during the war but not finished in time to see service. Not much detailed info, just some words on history, use, variants and numbers built plus some very basic tech infos. But great for a quick reference, if you just want to know what the heck was a Tschetwerikow Tsche-6 (a Russian Flying Boat) or Mitsubishi K3M (IJN trainer, code name 'Bine') or other obscure planes of WW2.

A book readily available is Aircraft of WWII by Stewart Wilson

Another (harder to find) is Combat Aircraft Of The World by John W.R.Taylor

Both are good referance books for the layman.

Going to check both of these out. Been burned before, who hasn't, purchasing on-line and being disappointed at the product so wanted some opinions from folks who think, at least a little bit, like me and have found something they like.

The forum never fails me.[;)]

Thanks again,
