Good Morning/Afternoon and/or Evening;

Ver 3.8.0.0

A buddy of mine and I have been trying to get a couple of games in without much success. (one gunboat scenario was the only one completed without hiccup)

We can connect without difficulty and the "games" will run for approx 5-10 mins. The issue appears to be the Server (most times) freezing.

We have both tried "hosting" thru standard IP setup or IP thru HIMACHI; all cases game will freeze.... again no difficulty connecting, loading and running...for 5-10 mins...

We have matched our setups/check boxes in the Configuration Launcher....

We have both run Single Player without any hiccups.... I ran one scenerio overnite for 6 hours while I slept... game was purring along.... so MP Server issue only?

...as well is it normal for the CLOCK to stop running and having to un pause while setting up Air Missions?

Have a Great Navy Day;

TiGGs

How deep would the oceans be without sponges?

You haven't really said what is happening with the multiplayer, is the server piece crashing, something locking up (you say freezing, can you give more detail, is the entire machine useless, mouse moves, nothing moves, are you using the same machine for both client and server,...)?

If the server piece is crashing and you are running on a multi-processor or multi-core machine, set Harpoon3Server.exe to only use one processor/core and you will probably encounter more stability. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1184431# points to a utility I use when serving off of my big machine.

Many thanx for the response:

The Game and or Server freezes. We are still able to Tab Out and use our computer(s).

Yes we are using same machine for Client Server.

My friends computer is dual core; mine is not. Issue is with both our computers... but maybe the Dual core is causing the issue ...?

We will try your suggeestion to see if we can sort out.

I have seen this also but this was a while back. In my case I believe it was processing power of the server computer so your case might be different.

Thanx Gents; issue was the Dual Core Processor. Set to utilize one processor and all works well. knock on wood

Cheers and have a Great Navy Day.

Glad you got it working, sorry I keep missing you on chats, stick around longer if you can but I was pretty far away when you've visited so far (rather a rarity for me to be away that consistently).

What do you mean by the term Dual Core?  I have had similar problems but have assumed they have been caused by heavy traffic or low capacity of the server machine.

TonyE -> RE: Multi Player(MP) Connectivity (7/1/2007 8:47:34 PM)

If you like wikipedia see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiprocessing

Essentially multiple main processors in one chip means multi-core, but for Harpoon it is the broader term that matter, multi-processor, the server piece thru 3.8.0.0 is only happy when run on a single processor.

Thanks for the quick response. Will investgate further.
