Gray_Lensman -> MY FoF quit working. (6/20/2007 1:37:56 PM)

My Forge of Freedom has quit initializing past the "Maxim" screen.

It basically goes thru the music with the blue progress bar doing it's normal thing, and the background voices yelling the "commands", but when it gets to "FIRE", the sound kind of falters, then the program Crashes back to the Desktop.

I've tried uninstall, then clearing registry, then reinstall at least 3 times with no luck whatsoever. No other games are affected, so I'm baffled.

Any ideas anyone?

edit: When it says "Fire".... it is staggered. example "FI <broken> RE". Crown of Glory still works fine, if using similar startup routines code.

Turned out it was Adobe Flash, as Rasmus explained.

I had redone my Adobe installation and Flash was not reinstalled

It is now, and FoF works fine as a result.

Flash is turning out to be a bit more mysterious than it first appeared in all our initial tests.  In all our tests, trying to run the game without Flash installed or with an older version than necessary simply caused the game to load/play properly with a white void in place of the regular Flash intro-animation.  Yet several people have found they have Flash-related configurations that cause the game to crash at that point.  For the next update we have added a NOFLASH option for anyone else who is having Flash-related problems.

For those of you who may be encountering a similar problem, especially if you make changes to Adobe software, the following link (provided by Rasmus) might help you out and eliminate some frustration time.

strange, never had this problem. I never had to install the flash program. Maybe when I updated Adobe the flash was included.

Adobe Flash is found on 99% of PCs (or so Adobe claims) and I've found it seems to do a good job of keeping itself up-to-date.  However we have found a handful of people whose Flash components crash when FOF tries to run them and I have no idea why.

Same symptoms reported by Gray Lensman, and sure enough the link to Flash is what fixed the problem (after I ahd spend several hours trying everything else).

Maybe this advice should be placed in a prominent place, even in the manual?
