Graf Speer -> Original SP music (9/4/2000 4:47:00 AM)

To all, While the SPWAW opening music is definitely improved over SP III's uninspiring strands, I sure would like to bring back Rick Rhode's original SP musical 'ambience' for SPWAW Is it possible to restore / modify the original music soundtracks to SPWAW? Albert p.s. it sure doth seem to take an awful lot of posts to get rid of speer's 'new member' status

Sure is. You will need the original SP CD's and a program such as Audiograbber. Just grab the song that you want to a .wav, rename it to the corresponding sound # for the music you want to replace, and copy it to your \snd directory. Of course, the files that you grab to .wav will each be like 50+ MB, so you might want to use a utility like Cool Edit Pro to change it to a 22KHz .wav... ------------------ Jon Johnson Audio/Video Productions Matrix Games

Hi Jon, "Audiograbber" and "Cool Edit Pro" - thank you! I will give this a try. Thanks for the savvy help!!! Albert

Hi Graf, well, good luck with it. Glad to help... ------------------ Jon Johnson Audio/Video Productions Matrix Games

Personally I liked the original intro video too! Is there anyway to restore that too!? Though I agree I like/miss the original musical score, I do like the battle field background sounds during the turns. ------------------ MJ We serve others best when at the same time we serve ourselves.

Due to code changes dealing with the video, I would have to say "no." ------------------ Jon Johnson Audio/Video Productions Matrix Games

Jon Johnson or Matrix Merry Men . . . help, please:
• I took Jon's excellent advice and downloaded Audiograbber and converted SP's original 3 tracks into wave files.
  • I then saved & replaced the SPWAW 1001.wav ("Credits"), 1006.wav("Game"), and 1009.wav ("Game") files by renaming the original SP music files to SPWAW Map code.
This, however, didn't work. I still hear all the SPWAW music files. Any idea what I did wrong? Thanks ahead of time for your help. Albert p.s. the converted Original SP wave files have not been compressed and they are 69,000, 30,000, and 30,000 kb's, respectively, but play perfectly when executed ("audiograbber" is a nice 'shareware' program). • Well, there is an error in the sound map. The 1001.wav music is embedded in the video so you will not be able to change it. Try changing the music that you have captured to 16,000, 8-bit, Stereo. Then try them out as 1002.wav, 1003.wav and 1004.wav. They should play fine then. Let me know how it goes... ------------------ Jon Johnson Audio/Video Productions Matrix Games

    Ahh! Thanks, Jon; I'll let you know. (apparently it's necessary to convert to 8 bit wave files? . . . I will try this given that my 16 bit 1006.wav and 1009.wav don't play) Albert

    It's not necessary to convert them to 8-bit, but it will save a ton of HD space if you do. They should still work fine in 16-bit... ------------------ Jon Johnson Audio/Video Productions Matrix Games Oops, should have said, changing the sample rate will save a ton of HD space. If your .wav is sampled at 22,050, 16-bit, changing it to 11,025, 8-bit will cut the size in half... [This message has been edited by Jon Johnson (edited September 16, 2000).]

    Hi, I wanted to experiment by using some classical music that I had on my HD as .wav files instead of the SP music. The new file is 66MB. I put it into 1002.wav and it crashes the game, returning me to the desktop. Any suggestions? ------------------ Fabs

    It sounds like your .wav is too large and the game is bugging out because of it. Convert it to an 11,025, 8-bit, Stereo .wav and then try it again. ------------------ Jon Johnson Audio/Video Productions Matrix Games

    Please forgive my ignorance but how do I convert it as you suggest? I have never done this before. Do I need some special software? ------------------ Fabs

    Graf Speer -> (9/18/2000 2:10:00 AM)

    Fabs, I used the simple "Sound Recorder" (sndrcd32.exe) which is included on your Windows CD and stored in main Windows Directory - just execute this little program, click on the "file" menu to open the wave file you wish to 'convert', then select "propereties" (still under the "file" menu) and select "convert now" and choose your preferences (HZ and bit resolution). Albert

    Thanks, Graf, I'll try that and see what happens. ------------------ Fabs

    While I was rummaging around the sound files to fix the music to my liking I came across 1023.wav. I think you will find that this is the old SP1 music. ------------------ Fabs
