PunkReaper -> American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/4/2007 10:49:28 PM)

Heard a rumour that Matrix were creating a napoleonic game using American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray. Being a Brit this is more my area of intertest. (BOA too painful an event for us Brits).[:)]. Anyone else heard if this is true?

sol_invictus -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/4/2007 11:05:02 PM)

AGEOD; the Developer of Birth of America and their new American Civil War game, is going to make a Napoleonic Campaigns game based on the ACW engine. I imagine that Matrix will Publish it. It is supposed to be released toward the end of this year. I also am looking forward to the Napoleonic game.

ravinhood -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/5/2007 4:42:58 PM)

Even I am going to have a hard look at this one since it is a grand scale type of Napoleonic game correct? One of the few types of games I don't have to play is grand scale napoleonic. I don't really care for AGEOD's engine, but, I might get passed it just this once. ;)

sol_invictus -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/5/2007 5:19:35 PM)

The initial game will be broken up into single campaigns. At a later date; after a Diplomatic AI system is created; there will be a Grand Campaign covering the entire Napoleonic Wars.

ravinhood -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/5/2007 6:15:00 PM)

That will be the biggest test of their ai when trying to have several factions fighting in the same war. BOA and ACW pretty much has been 1v1 with some small scale minors involved. Will be anxious to see how well they do when they try a broader scale of war and their ai performance.

We will find out with Vainglory of Nations, which should be released before the enhanced Napoleonic game. If AGEOD can pull off a realistic and credible Diplomatic AI, it will be a great achievement.

Anyone played "War and Peace" a 2002 Pc game. As you can see I am desperate for a good Napoleonic game.

Punk Reaper,

Have you already tried Crown of Glory?

Finally, there's the upcoming re-release bundle of the Battleground Napoleonics:

JAW DROPS TO THE FLOOR! Nooooo you're kidding right telling us an April Fools joke in July right? Later THIS YEAR?!!! Please reconfirm I think I'm dreaming. ;)

sol_invictus -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/7/2007 6:07:18 AM)

Punk Reaper, I played the demo for War and Peace many months ago and I would strongly advise you to stay far away. If you can handle a very groggy Grand Strategy game, go with Crown of Glory. If you can wait several months, AGEOD is releasing a game covering all of Napoleon's campaigns using their BOA/ACW engine.

That isn't one, although to a large extent opinion will depend on whether you like RTS games or not. If you want one that is more wargame than clickfest try and get hold of the Breakaway Waterloo and Austerlitz games, and hope that Battlefront's 'Les Grognards' sheds its increasingly vapourware-like status and finally appears.

Crown of Glory is well worth your money (as is Campaigns on the Danube) and has the advantage of including a halfway-decent tactical system within a strategic game. For a better tactical experience in classic turn-based style go for the HPS Napoleonic Campaigns series, especially Waterloo. If its anwhere near as good as Birth of America and their Civil War game, the AGEOD one will be a must when it appears.

Imperial Glory isn't too bad - that is if you like the "Total War" style games.

Disagree on the positive for "Campaigns on the danube" [:-], seemed like a 90's game without much substance imo.. anyone here like Europa Universalis III ? thinking about getting it while waiting on some other whales

It's OK. Gameplay can get a bit samey in mid-game unless you have a series of plans to implement. Basically, it's a sandbox to try out ideas - one of the countries in the game always gets big enough to offer a challenge but it's always the same kind of challenge - how to take down the big boy.

I'd like to see the developers come out with a series of scenarios with a bit of period-specific chrome for each. How would you cope as Charles I or Cromwell in the ECW, Cortez in Mexico, or any of the belligerents in the Thirty Years War?

freeboy -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/8/2007 5:44:25 PM)

I was thinking about the ability to add a "Napolenic" type of leader through the event engine.. not neccessarilly at France to add to the mix.. seems like a beer and pretztle game, fun but not tooo deep. thanks

PunkReaper -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/8/2007 5:47:09 PM)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am pleased to see that Empire in Arms is coming out later this year. I think AGEOD's Napoleon game will be worth waiting for the map looks impressive and Histwar if they can get it out, as well as Battlegrounds. All in all it could be a good year for the Napoleonic war games.[:)]

ravinhood -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/8/2007 6:39:02 PM)

Good year all around for wargames from Matrix, but, now I'm wondering what's left to release next year if they release Battlegrounds as well this year? This could be their big bumper crop year of wargames so they can show a high bottom line before they sellout to EA. :) (ducking)

If they sell out to EA we can expect Battlegrounds 2008 next year followed by Batttleground 2009 with Carriers at War 2008,2009 2010 etc[:D]

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray (7/9/2007 12:19:34 AM)

I have EU3 not bad at all. Plays like eu2 but naval units have been up dated along with other things. Also 3d terrain.
