target762 -> Power, Contact, Eye Stats (7/5/2007 4:15:09 AM)

I've been playing the game for a month now and am wondering what the Stats mean. I didn't see an explaination in the rules, or I missed it.
What is the difference between Eye and Contact?
I assume Power has to do with how far a ball is hit?
Or is it Power is more likley to Fly/Pop out and Contact to get a grounder?

All my teams suffer from low scoring games, yet I do not think my players are all that bad. I thought if I understood the Stats better I could better set up the lineup are maybe my trading would be better.

Thanks for any input.

Hello, TJA and welcome to the Forums. As far as I understand the attributes of the players, here is a simple explination.

For Batters....

Power: Player's ability to hit the ball long and possible for a homerun. Players like Babe Ruth and Ralph Kiner are in the 90-100 range.

Contact: Player's ability to make contact with the ball for a base hit. Players like George Brett or Honus Wagner have very high contact numbers.

Eye: Ability to tell if a ball is going to be a strike or not. Players with a very high number in the attribute will be walked much more often than they will strike out.

Speed: Base stealing ability.

Range: Fielding range of the player. How well he plays his position and gets the out.

Arm: How strong the player's arm is at throwing the ball to get the out. Roberto Clemente (a right fielder) had a great arm and could sometimes throw out people at first base who had grounded to right field.

Hands: Fielding ability as far as errors go. High rating in hands means few errors and good fielding.

For Pitchers....

Stuff: Simply how good or bad the pitcher is at getting the out and preventing runs. Christy Mathewson definitely had the Stuff.

Velocity: Determines if your pitcher gets a lot of strike outs. Sandy Koufax who in his prime had both the Stuff and Velocity got a lot of strike outs and some no hitters as well.

Control: Does your pitcher walk a lot of batters or not

Endurance: How many innings you player van play before his attributes begin to degrade and starts walking batters and giving up hits.

Hold Runners: Ho well your pitcher prevents men on base from stealing.

Potential: A quantification of whether the player’s attributes will improve or worsen over the years. A player’s potential devolves as the grow older and pass their prime years.

Hope that this helps. Have Fun.[:)]
