PadresFan104 -> New Template Coming (7/7/2007 1:31:21 AM)

Guys - Just started a new Association and thought I'd post it as a template. Look for it in the coming days, maybe over the weekend. Here's the details:

- Starts in 1968
- The American Baseball Association is made up of the Continental League (larger markets) and the Great American League (smaller markets)
- 60 man rosters
- Finances are on
- There is no DH in either League
- Teams are using 5 man roatations and modern closer usage
- Each team has a custom logo
- Each team has custom player photos [;)] (this will take some time)
- Minor League Affiliates have not been given custom names
- No custom ballparks (all set to the default)

this might seem like a dumb question but is this modeled after leagues that actually existed in 1968? if so what teams were in it back then?

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/8/2007 12:52:00 AM)

Not a dumb question, but no, it's not modeled after any real leagues. I just like to pick 1968 as a starting year for my leagues since it was the year I was born. [:)] Also, if people want to create some history for their league, they can always auto-sim from 1968 to 2007...

Here's a snapshot of the teams from the American Baseball Association.

VERY nice...

...very nice indeed. That looks like it would be a great association to play. Good cities, good mascots, lots of fun.

Just curious though, "Portland Explorers", which Portland -- Maine or Oregon?

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/8/2007 8:57:17 AM)

Here are the Power Rankings (top 10) for 1968... Interesting that a small market team, Winston-Salem, is #1 to start the season. They have the 9th highest payroll in the Association, and the 2nd highest payroll in the Great American League, after Portland.

Western Division? That would be Oregon.. [;)]

Each team comes with 35 player photos (enough for the bigs and AAA in most cases). I've pre-assigned the photos, but will include them with the .zip of the template in case you want to switch them around. Here's what they look like...

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/9/2007 7:30:00 AM)

Template is on it's way through the ether... It's a big file, about 65MB compressed, so it'll take a little while to be ready. It got bigger since I decided to go ahead and add stadiums, and include a folder of facepack images.

I'm going to start playing it myself. If anyone else tries it out, leave me some feedback!

Al

akcranker -> RE: New Template Coming (7/9/2007 9:27:15 AM)

Did you zip that file up with that 7-zip utility?

akcranker -> RE: New Template Coming (7/9/2007 9:32:53 AM)

Hey Padresfan what ever happened to your NAMBLA Association?  We had a good thread going in the Locker and then everyone quit posting how their associations were going.  I still have mine sitting on my other computer.

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/9/2007 7:42:33 PM)

I just zipped it up with the standard windows xp .zip utility. (Right-click, Send To -> Compressed (.zip) Folder)

Yeah, I got tired of the NAMBLA association for some reason.  Sorry about that!

hobbitrjw -> RE: New Template Coming (7/9/2007 11:07:02 PM)

I downloaded the template and started playing and it is a lot of fun very well done on it. though I was suprised at some of the stadium choices you made considering the association starts in 1968,you really dont expect to see Minute maid park in there :)

Reason I asked on how you zipped it up is because I believe that 7-zip utility will make the file smaller. It has better compression.

LOL, yeah, I guess I take the term fictional to new heights with the stadium choices... I just like to have something interesting to look at while I'm playing...

hobbitrjw -> RE: New Template Coming (7/9/2007 11:58:55 PM)

I dont blame you at all....and i guess you can take from what i said that i chose to be the Las Vegas Aces and in my first game we lost to the hated Michigan Panthers 6-3

I guess I can just picture Minute Maid Park standing back in 1968 :P

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/10/2007 12:02:13 AM)

LOL, glad you are having as much luck as me.  I'm managing the Surf, and we lost our first game at the 1968 Petco Park to the hated Coasters of Anaheim, 6-5.

hobbitrjw -> RE: New Template Coming (7/10/2007 12:05:03 AM)

Yikes thats even worse losing to a team in the same state as you :P

oh well I cant wait for Reno,we'll crush them :P

hobbitrjw -> RE: New Template Coming (7/10/2007 12:14:54 AM)

oh yes and to mention the fact that i quickly put up the box score and my starter James Judkins pitched 1/3 of a inning threw 2 pitches and suffered a injury putting him on the shelf for 3 weeks.

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/10/2007 12:22:17 AM)

Well, James didn't get injured on opening day in my Association, but he got knocked around pretty good by the Panthers in an opening day loss.  In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, a HR, and 4 earned runs.  Michigan won, 6-1.

hobbitrjw -> RE: New Template Coming (7/10/2007 2:27:56 AM)

ouch he didnt do to well then did he,i might have to keep a eye on him as the season goes along...

still I wonder just why I always choose the team that winds up having Mediocrity for pitching.....Is it just because the game has become so high offensive lately to where there isnt as good defense as there used to be at one time?

hobbitrjw -> RE: New Template Coming (7/12/2007 6:34:12 AM)

also was just looking through your teams and mascot choices and i might be the only observant one here,but were you trying to get us hungry by calling buffalo the Buffalo Wings :P

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/12/2007 9:08:52 AM)

LOL.. no, just trying to be clever... Another piece of useless info though, all cities/states in this association are places I've a) lived, b) vacationed, or c) traveled to for business.

Silverbullet -> RE: New Template Coming (7/12/2007 11:01:47 PM)

Do I unzip everything to the "psa" file including the image folder?

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Template Coming (7/13/2007 1:22:03 AM)

No, this is a template, so just unzip the .PSA file to your psa_template folder.  The folder of images can go anywhere you like.
