i know penalities exist in malerial zones... i know the less developed a base is the more severe the malarial penalities.... what i thought i knew was that if a base was Level 9 AF and Port in a malerial zone, the penalities would cease to exist....yet i've had troops at such a base, and their disablements are barely being repaired, despite numerous HQ's and supplies...... so the question i'm asking, will malarial zone bases....always suffer some type of penality no matter how developed the base is?

Supposedly, if a base is starts in a malarial zone, it will ALWAYS be in a malarial zone despite being level 9 base (according to Mr. Frag from a long time ago) despite what the manual says.

The higher the base level that is built up counter acts the negative effects evenly...meaning they don't deteriorate any more but they don't get better either.

You only think it is maleria that is disabling your troops. In reality it is the secret weapons developed by Unit 731 that I left behind that are causing the damage[:D]

Witp has malaria in the rules? Wow, I never knew that! [&:] looks in rulebook I'm so thankful I went to Kinkos and had them print the rules out with the cover, bind, and everything. Well worth the $20. I wish there was another player here in San Diego so I could watch a few rounds, the learning curve is discouraging to say the least. But I'm determined to get this down! Don't know if you are interested in this sort of thing but the Comicon is on the weekend of the 26th. There is Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. Balboa Park also has a ton of museums. My favorite there is the model train museum. God, I'm such a 40 year old kid [8\|]. And RogueUSMC, I still use your sig with the Japanese Zero. Thanks again! [&o]

In a malarial zone pretty much the only way I've found of recovering from disablements is to leave the base. Any piece of pestillent jungle will do, and it's a lot better than a level 9 base.....another one of the little witp foibles we just have to embrace.

[sm=character0272.gif] Visit the forum often and ask lots and lots of questions...the manual only gets you about 50% of the way there in terms of learning the game. The rest you'll need to learn from the forum.

Ken, Bodhi's Utility has a nice feature that allows you to highlight both Malaria and Ice Zones. [:D] It alos helps to keep track of all that intel and other reports. If you have tried it, I would recommend it. [&o]

Bodhi's Utility doesn't take in to account some changes that were made to the map reducing the Malaria Zone. Namely the removal of it from Australia. Also, someone did tests not too long ago trying to measure how much of a difference base size made in reducing malaria casualties and found that there was effectively none. The difference between a 9/9 base and a 1/0 one was almost unmeasurable.

I haven't been to Balboa Park in almost 40 years, but I just got an invite to operate the club layout there. Unfortunately, I'm already booked for the weekend in question. [:(] Did get to go on MIDWAY the year before last, though. Definitely worth it! Also got to see RONALD REAGAN parked across the bay. Don't know how it fared in Katrina, but I also like visiting ALABAMA in Mobile. Any time I can take a self-guided tour for a reasonable price is fine with me (MISSOURI, on the other hand, is grossly overpriced). DRUM is also in Mobile (an SS, for the few who might not know -- seems like everyone on these forums can give the entire OOB for the entire war!). And, speaking of submarines, it reminds me in a roundabout way that I had the opportunity to eat some wahoo the other day. Very tasty fish -- kind of like swordfish or mahi mahi without the extra oil. Have never seen it on a menu before, even in Hawaii, so certainly didn't expect it in downtown Chicago!

We used to have a Frappr map where people could put the locations of ships and museums. Ah, we still do: http://www.frappr.com/matrixwarinthepacific I don't think anyone's looked at it in some time but there it is.

January 9, 2007 marks the 42th anniversary of the opening of USS ALABAMA (BB-60) Battleship Memorial Park. Eighteen years to the day since she last ran under her own power, the World War II heroine was dedicated in Mobile, Alabama to the memory of Alabama veterans of all branches of the armed services, Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Last year on January 9, 2006, Battleship Memorial Park reopened after being closed for 4 1/2 months due to the more than $7 million in damages suffered during Hurricane Katrina. Although most of the repairs are complete, the Park still has a $3 � million shortfall after all insurance and FEMA funds are applied, which is seriously impacting the self-supporting Park�s future operations.
