Don't worry Joe, I'm a Beta tester on CF too and my posting this has no effect at all on anything.  I guess when they're ready Matrix will list the game as coming soon.  Until then it's in the works and it's interesting to say the least.

Joe D. -> RE: Carrier Force (7/30/2007 4:33:27 AM)

Well, now I know at least two CF Beta testers; how many posts in this thread were you going to keep your "double life" a secret?

Since you're the only Beta that I know who regularly posts on this forum, you're now the unofficial source for all CF info, even if Matrix still has you operating on a "need to know" basis!

Tankerace -> RE: Carrier Force (7/30/2007 5:57:59 AM)

Actually I can verify that CF is NOT the only game being produced that doesn't have an in development forum. I can think of two others of the top of my head. I know one is hush hush, dunno about the other.

Again, asking a question won't delay CF. Being deluged might (at least if Mike is answering them all, and that is what HE has told me). Also, with regards to CF testers, we have about 12 actually, almost all of whom post regularly (though I suspect mainly in the WitP forums). Given that the testers have all agreed to respect my wishes regarding Non disclosure, you'll do better just asking me or Mike Wood a question.

Again, I have no problem answering questions. But I do not (again, like with WPO) have a desire to play rumor control.

Terminus -> RE: Carrier Force (7/30/2007 1:19:24 PM)

Smart move...

Joe D. -> RE: Carrier Force (7/30/2007 3:05:33 PM)

Todd, sorry to blow your "cover". I had a secret clearance in the military, but it was only awarded so that I wouldn't compromise III Corps HQ documents.

As rumors thrive at a military installation, HQ countered them by releasing unclassified info in a timely manner, but here's my CF query:

Will CF have scenarios? Will they be the same senarios that UV currently has? Will there be the same scenario editor, and if so, will the problems with the disapearing Allied TFs in the Turning Tide and Hard Road Ahead scenarios -- that were reported and confirmed in the UV "bugs" section some time ago -- be fixed before CF is released?

Tankerace -> RE: Carrier Force (7/30/2007 8:19:30 PM)

1. Will Carrier Force Have Scenarios?
Yes. How many is left to be determined.

2. Will they be the same that UV Currently Has?
Some will be the same, but we will probably have some new ones. Of course, in the instance of Coral Sea, they really are vastly different. What was a simple 7 day scenario and could be played in a day or two will now take a good deal longer. While the overall scenarios may be similar, they will feel and play differently. The same large campaigns will probably be present, although with as many OOB updates as we can do.

3. Will the same scenario editor be present? No, the game uses a different editor. Anyone familiar with the UV/WitP/WPO Editors should be able to use them, but because of the new features and new method of play the old editor is not compatible with CF.

4. Will disappearing bugs be fixed? Yes, and here is where you can help. Even if it is in UV, if you can send me a save of a UV bug (to justinp@matrixgames.com), I can have Mike check to see if the same problem exists in CF. If it does, he will fix it. Of course I am not saying CF will be bug free at release (as much as we'd like it too), but we will make every effort to make it bug free. But understand CF is really much more than a simple overhaul to UV, and as such bugs are being fixed that are specific to CF. I would like all bugs to be fixed, but if you, the players of UV, can send me saves of specific bugs I can have Mike check them against the current CF builds to see if they are still present.

Joe D. -> RE: Carrier Force (7/30/2007 8:53:05 PM)

I realize nothing is released bug-free, I just didn't want to deal w/the UV bugs that were already reported at the top of this forum. Since CF will use a new scenario editor, I'm going to assume any bugs reported in the old editor are a mute issue as far as this new game is concerned.

It looks like UV and CF are really two very different games, and if there are any further fixes for UV, it will have to come via another patch, which is another thread for another time.

I simply assumed UV bugs would have to be addressed as it and CF share the same game engine, or is that another assuumption on my part.

Sergeant -> RE: Carrier Force (7/31/2007 12:42:52 AM)

One small question; will CF be compatible with the new Windoze Vista OS?

Joe D. -> RE: Carrier Force (7/31/2007 1:16:25 AM)

Sergeant,

Check out this post re Vista problems w/UV -- as UV shares its engine w/CF -- from the UV "Bugs reported and Problems" section @ the top of this forum:

Uncommon Valor installed fine and works fine for me under Vista.

Right click on the install file and “Run as administrator”. Then set the shortcut to run in XP compatibility mode and run as administrator.

Vista Tip: When you install software always “Run as administrator” never install using autorun.

The player having the problem did the above and it and it worked; maybe this will solve your Vista problems as well.

Tankerace -> RE: Carrier Force (8/1/2007 10:29:28 PM)

Yes, they do use the same engine, or at least part of it. But CF has a new tactical 15 minute game built on top as well, which means that it is really an entirely new monster.

However some of the UV problems have creeped in, I know of two or three Mike has already addressed. What they were honestly I can't remember, I haven't played UV in something like six years.

There is still one UV bug that was reported that we want to verify in CF, that of ships or subs being able to "get stuck" in land hexes in Australia. If some UV player could find the hex, we could double check it in CF. So far my testers haven't been able to do it in CF yet, so that's hopeful.

This is good to hear . I'm waiting impatiently for my my new pc. In the past week when I'm gaming the one I'm using now locks up, the fans are running but the motherboard is hot to the touch, like you can keep your finger on it like one second. I was wondering if UV would run with Vista.

Hornblower -> RE: Carrier Force (7/2/2008 6:00:53 AM)
