CeltiCid -> BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/20/2007 1:02:09 AM)

Heres a bug that dosent allow me to play TCP/ip games on MP.

We started the game. November scenario. First turn was ok. When we finished turn in turn 2, 3 or 4 error messages showed on screen. This is the screen:

[image]http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u265/celticid/event_Error.jpg[/image]

If you choose "reintentar"--Retry in english-- the game crashes to desktop. If you choose "to omit", the same error shows 3 or 4 times. Selecting omit all time, the game continues, but then your side cant see the report of the turn. Nor in the "event" button, nor in the various informs that you can choose in the inform bar.

So, the game can continue, but i cant see any event.

If you see at the screenshot, you see that the game goes to c:\proyects folder, that it dosent exits in my hard drive.

Any idea or solution about this issue?

thanks

I am the other side, the South side [:D]

Hosting me  or hosting celticid the error appears always. It is not problem of host, seems to be problem of event report.

The folder: c:\projecs\ doesn't exist in my computer.

we have the SAVE file if it is needed to understand this.

Gil R. -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/20/2007 6:47:23 PM)

Is this happening while you play using the Hamachi system? (See http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1492917&mpage=1&key=hamachi )

CeltiCid -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/20/2007 8:08:40 PM)

Yes, we was using hamachi. it is that the problem?

cesteman -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/20/2007 8:48:43 PM)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the game was designed to be played over that sort of system. I could be wrong. I like the idea and think that sound be something for an upcoming patch if there is a problem. Cheers.

ericbabe -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/20/2007 9:25:02 PM)

This error is most likely happening because of dropped packets.  Unfortunately there's not a lot we can do about this, short of porting the TCP/IP libraries over to a new system.  Some people seem to be able to play TCP/IP games with no problems, whereas others seem to have problems (even over LAN), and unfortunately I have not been able to ascertain any causes of this bifurcation.

Maulet -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/20/2007 9:33:09 PM)

Then I don't understand why if we click to omit the error, we can cotinue playing without events reports, but we can play.

If the problem would be the dropped packets the game would finish because one player drop, but in our case if we click "omit" (the third option) we can still play.

cesteman -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/21/2007 3:24:11 AM)

So your saying you can still play the game? If that's the case, click omit and then you can go to the events tab and get the same report for the start of your turn. No biggie I'd say just something that you need to ignore. Cheers.

CeltiCid -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/21/2007 4:08:06 AM)

Nothing shows in the events bar.

ericbabe -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/21/2007 5:40:33 AM)

It may be those packets that were dropped.

As celticid said, we can still play but in the events tab doesn't appear nothing.

any news about this?

this bugs shows in single game sometimes, so i dont think its caused by dropped packets...

Gil R. -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/25/2007 5:28:08 AM)

No news -- Eric's away until Sunday night (and probably not back on the forum until Monday), and no one else is competent to discuss this problem.

CeltiCid -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/26/2007 11:36:55 PM)

Ok, we tried again this night.

I reinstalled the game, avoiding any possible corrupted archive.

We tried first by hamachi. The same error that you can see in the screenshot showed up in the resollution of the second turn.

Then we tried by IP, with ports open in the router. Same happened.

Cant play by TCP/IP. Patch needed!!! [:-][:-][:-][:-][:-][:-]

Maulet -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/26/2007 11:47:53 PM)

Yes, we try direct tcp/ip and hamachi and always appears the same error.

I don't think that the problem would be dropped packets.

Is it always dropped packets??? It's impossible.
This is an error of the game. It's a bug, and we need a solution.

Months ago were the detailed battles, now the movement phase-event report.

We want only play tcp/ip , nothing more...

ericbabe -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (7/30/2007 4:16:48 PM)

The assertion you're showing in the jpeg you posted happens when there are dropped packets -- so as much as that's happening then packets are being dropped.  Many people are playing with TCP/IP game without this problem, so it seems more reasonable to assume that this problem is happening when packets are dropped and not because of anything intrinsic to the code itself.  According to the documentation of the TCP/IP libraries we are using (DirectPlay4.0) this assertion should never happen because dropped packets are supposed to be detected and handled automatically by the library -- however this does not seem to be the case.  I may be able to write my own dropped packet handler in place of the one that is supposed to be in DirectPlay4.0 and have the client re-request the game state information from the server.

This means that this hotfix will be added in the incomming patch?

CeltiCid -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (9/23/2007 1:37:38 PM)

hi there, i pop up this discussion just to know if there will be any fix in the patch that we are testing....

any change in the multiplayer zone?

ericbabe -> RE: BUG in TCP game. Cant see the report (9/24/2007 9:03:10 PM)

In the latest beta patch there is a new dropped packet message.  If people having problems also get this message, then I'll know that the problem does indeed involve dropped-packets-in-the-way-I-am-hypothesizing-that-they-are-being-dropped.  If that is the case, then I may be able to override the dropped packet detection routine that's in the windows libraries we are using now and to write my own dropped packet detecion routine in place of that.
