Hello.

Aside from the title and prompted by Undercovergeek's queries, I avidly read a few threads on the merits/shortcomings of CHS, RHS, NikMod and Andrew Brown's & Subchaser's maps. I am intrigued and baffled at the same time, as the possible mix/match of the above can be daunting to one who is still learning the game stock-mode. However, once I finish my stock-15 campaign, I can see myself dabbling in these new tools, and will revert at that time.

Now, in my afore-mentioned campaign. Late November '44. Japan is in ruins, only running the game to enrich my experience with amphib ops, land combat (in Indochina/China), understanding the way the AI moves overland supply to bases (akwardly in my experience) and trying out the newer aircraft types. In addition, I am looking forward to the availability of the first atomic bomb & the Soviets activation.

One puzzling obervation: Palembang is still held by the Japs. It has been isolated for nearly a year, not a single enemy ship has come even close. Bombed (AF/Port, ground units) every turn by 200+ planes. Surprisingly, there is over 100K in both fuel & supplies stockpiled there! Only logical explanation I can come up with is that since said base produces huge amounts of oil/resources, they convert to fuel/supplies. Am I correct in this belief? As to why I haven't strategically bombed Palembang, I wanted to give the enemy a fighting chance (proven wrong there, since they were unable to ship any oil/resources home since early 1944).

Another question to do with P-61A Black Widow. Used to love this plane in Pacwar, but in WitP it comes as a night fighter variant. I use my squadrons as day fighter-bombers, targeting airfields. Any additional profitable assignment that I may employ, given the planes' nightly abilities?

Bases with Oil/Resources will produce additional fuel and supply (respectively).  I don't remember how many resources it has (if any), but I know it's got something like 900 oil, which is going to pruduce a LOT of fuel per turn (900?).  So even if you're bombing the Port/AF, but not the strat facility, its going to produce a LOT of fuel every turn.  Same for a base with resources.  I think it produces an additional supply per turn per resource, and that tends to crank out a lot of supplies.

I assume you are playing vs the AI. If you have the difficulty setting to "Very Hard", the AI does not run out of supply.

If you can understand this, then you are a master of this game.

One of the minor shortcomings of WITP is that you cannot bomb the stockpiles of Oil or Resources. They just keep piling up. You cannot even turn off production. The enemy is knocking on the front gate and you cannot set fire to the stockpiles. I think production is supposed to stop when the enemy is in same hex, not sure.

I can see it now.

The President of East Indies Oil turning to his VP and saying, "Smedley! Go into town and grab every cup, bottle, bathtub,washing machine and sink. I need more storage for the Oil stockpile."

Elucidating. And no Charbroiled, I play vs. the AI on Hard.

Seems I'll have to bypass Palembang then, there is over 1500 AV parked there :).

If you put a LCU in the same hex as Pelembang, I think it stops producing Oil/Resources.

But if the Japanese are unable to get anything out of there, then there is no reason to try to take it or even reduce it's production {it's not going anywhere}.

I know it stops converting them to supply and fuel, but I didn't know the actual production stopped.
