Sergeant -> To AAR or Not to AAR (7/21/2007 11:52:32 PM)

I'm currently engaged in scenario 16 with Wissooner. I'm the Japanese. [:D]

Doing an AAR can be time consuming and tedeous work. [>:] My Windoze VISTA will not allow me to run my SNAP program at same time as UV so I can't make actual snaps of the map situation. [:-] I suppose I could google the area and snap a real map then add a pointer. [8|]

Hmmm... I could also reprint the record of Tuants and Jabs I send to my opponent whenever I transmit my moves. But I don't that anyone would be interested in them. [:-]

So... the delima -- To AAR or Not to AAR, Dat iz Da Question?

As a new player to this game who has realised all he's missed the past few years I would welcome any new AARs as they help me learn strategy in a painless fashion.

Sergeant -> RE: To AAR or Not to AAR (7/22/2007 3:09:24 AM)

[;)] Very well, I shall do a "small" AAR.  Nothing lavish, I shall try to make it entertaining to make up for lack of graphics.  I think I shall call it "Yamamoto's Diary" and write it like a journal entry much after the fact.  I cannot reveal over-all strategy because my opponent reads this forum too. [:-]  Since tactical information is perishable, I think at least a week old should be sufficient.  Strategic information, however, should be avoided.
Would that satisfy any potential audience?  [8|]

How well does UV/strategy games in general run on Vista? Do you have the bare bones or premium Vista version?

Sergeant -> RE: To AAR or Not to AAR (7/22/2007 6:35:36 AM)

I am running UV on Windoze VISTA Home Basic (HP System).  I have frequent lockups requiring shut down and restarting the computer.  VISTA is reporting the problem to be caused by the 2.5 upgrade file.  I have UV set to Windoze 98 compatibility mode with desk-top annimations turned off.  When it locks it makes a grinding motor sound.  It ALWAYS locks up upon exiting from any of the database files within the game.  Otherwise it works fine! [8|]

If you bought UV originally @ 2.0, you can always go back to it and see if that v 2.5 claim is valid; of course, PBEM compatibility than becomes an issue.

I have heard bad reports re Vista and multi-player/on-line gaming, so how's your PBEM holding up, or do you lock-up when just playing UV vs. the AI as well?

I wonder if all the bells and whistles in Vista just make things worse, ie., Vista "deluxe" may be more troublesome than basic Vista, as far as games are concerned. Then again, MS may have a grand strategy w/Vista, ensuring the only games that will run on it are its own MS PC games!

Thank God I got my Dell E510 before the Vista deluge.

Hi Sergent,

I don't know what VISTA or SNAP is but you can always push ¨print screen¨ then ¨Alt¨ out of the game. Open MS Paint and then paste the screen shot. Then go back to your game.

Hello Ike,
VISTA is MicroSoft's new operating system. I used to have Win98 but when my computer went belly up I baught a new system with the latest OS on it. SNAP is a capture program that I have but VISTA and UV together don't like that program. [:-]

Will have to see if I have MS Paint - probably do. So what you're saying is that while I have the game up I can press Prnt Scrn and then ALT or press them together? [8|] Then back out of UV - you see the problem is that VISTA won't let me drop the UV screen to bring up another program. [:-]

The picture of Yamamoto in my AAR was taken with my SNAP program.

Hi Sergent,

While your playing your game press the ¨print screen¨ key. It`s the one to the right of your ¨F12¨ key.

That takes a picture of what`s on your screen and puts it to memory.

Then push the ¨window¨ key. This will minimize your game.

Then open MS paint.

click ¨edit¨, then ¨paste.¨

That paste what was on your screen when you pressed ¨print screen¨

It`s easy and works with anything on your screen....look.

I should say the flying window or window flag key, whatever the hell it is [:D] the windows logo key, is between your ¨cntrl¨ and ¨alt¨ key. Whatever key you use to minimize a program. I have a spanish key board but I`m thinking it is the same key?

I'm still trying to figure out how to link pictures here from another site...anyone care to enlighten me? [&:]
