VZ -> Artillery question (7/23/2007 1:36:43 AM)

Will a artillery unit behind my line NOT support the defence if the arty guys are from another formation as the defender in the attacked hex?

For example in "Operation Blue" as germans I moved those plenty arty units from 11.army somewhere else after sewastopol was taken but it seems they dont support the defenders.

btw: There is really a option aka gamefeature needed to assign units to other formations.

Levelworm -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 2:43:51 AM)

I remember they need to pass somekind of communication check, and this feature will be included in the next patch? not sure though.

If you're referring to "this feature" as being able to swap units from formation to formation, then that is most assuredly incorrect. This ability will most certainly have to wait until a TOAW IV.

SMK-at-work -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 6:32:55 AM)

Oooeer....hints about TOAW IV....[:D][:D]........including the ability to shift units between formations??!! [&o][&o]

Levelworm -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 8:58:22 AM)

Oh, at least we have hope [:D]

VZ -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 9:14:28 AM)

..and? Whats the thingy with my arty now?

Depends on the cooperation level and communications checks.

..check the formation co-operation setting, and check the unit icon colours before you move the artillery..

..in actual combat go plan attack, if all the flags are gold then it's cool, if not, not...

Rugens -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 3:49:53 PM)

Also, be sure your artillery orders are not set to "Mobile".

a white rabbit -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 4:08:19 PM)

..yahh right, we all have our off days..

It's my understanding that artillery that is in "mobile" status doesn't fire but that artillery that is intended to fire must be in 'T,D,E, or F' mode. Oh....you don't want it to fire, okay nevermind.

..i only use tactical settings, then i'm sure it supports..

co-op level (the flag colour on the attack planning screen I assume) is grey.

the icon colour from the arty units in question is another one than the units which are suposed to be supported (in the operation blue campaign each german army has another color). The arty units are dug in.

Is there any chance that they will support the defence anyway (if so I will let them stay here, maybe just bad luck that they dont gave any support yet).

a white rabbit -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 8:19:51 PM)

..aaargghh..

..gold is good, grey is errr dodgy, black is crap...

..take a look at "formation" on one of the pull-downs, internal support is really baaad, they only like units from the same formation and of the same colour..

..it gets better from there..

Silvanski -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 8:27:39 PM)

or try this alternative one

rename to combatviewstuff.bmp after downloading it

Very cool.

EDIT: God, that's an ugly green, though! [:D]
EDIT2: This will certainly make Frances' life easier, though.

it is "Streitmacht-Unterstützung" (german version). I think it means Force support.
The support is limited then (but possible) , right?

..no friggin' idea, you're in Germany, ask a german...

..french, tagalog,bisayan, english, tagakolo..s'all i do..

VZ -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 8:39:05 PM)

hehe. Matrix´s translation are vague at times ;)
Lets say they mean force support, am I correct then? (edited my post above)

a white rabbit -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 8:43:14 PM)

..see my edit too..

..like i said..

..

VZ -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 8:45:22 PM)

Another question regarding co-op level.

Easy Example: Lets say I have two units in position for attack. The flag in the attack planner shows black (bad).
Does it makes any sence to have them both attacking or is the penalty that high that i better refrain from a combined attack and instead have just one unit attacking?

..black is bad..

..don't, unless you must..

..the penalties are painful..

It should mean Force support, right. It also means that you are not using the foreign language patch or are still using 3-0-1-7???!! Should now be Kooperationsebene with either Intern, Armee, Streitmacht or Unbeschränkt.

Telumar -> RE: Artillery question (7/23/2007 9:30:54 PM)

And the foreign langauge patch. Ralph had posted it somewhere, but i can't recall.

1) Namenserweiterung .txt in .zip umbenennen
2) Inhalt in Deinen TOAWIII Ordner extrahieren und vorhandene Datei ersetzen.

That's my motto. [:D] A firend of mine had a German exchange student over back when I was in high school. his english wasn't bad, but he couldn't understand me worth a darn because every other word was slang. [:D]
