First thanks to all who answered my Long Island CVE question. Here's another. So in June 42 the Allies get all these AV's with no planes on them. Are these more candidates for Pearl Harbor? Do the Allies ever get Float Plane reenforcements to assign to them?

Thanks

Yep. Although you can use them on the dot bases (add some supply too) around Luganville or those island directly east of Irau(?) to reinforce your recon. Catalinas are pretty poor at recon compared to using Mavii or Betties.

In a base that has a regular Base Force, your aviation support is max 30. If you put a squadron of P-40s there, that uses 24 leaving you 6. If you wanna put Catalinas there too, that pushes your support needs over what you have by 6. Send an AVD in there and it supports 12 float planes...an AV supports 16 I believe. This leaves the inherent 30 aviation support squads to handle 24 P-40s.

AVD can also be used as fast transports. Acutally, a valuable ship for this purpose

Things to remember when using dot bases for recon:
AV for support
Fast Tranport for supplies
Float planes of course
Don't stay to long as your opponent is sure to send a sub, surface shiips or planes to stop the intrusion.
It's excellent for a quick look at something that you don't normally have the range to see.

AVs are great for boosting base support when you don't have the troops/engineers to do it. If I have to "rob" a rear area base of support troops to send them to a forward area that lacks support, i.e., Lungaville support to the 'Canal -- I can safely send some AVs to the "robbed" base to help make up the difference in support.

You can also disband AVs once they get into port, and they will still supply base support.

As ships go, AVs are a high-value target for the AI and probably should not be used as (fast) transport or otherwise sent in harm's way unless you have a really good reason for doing so.
