Gudadantza -> Question about campaigns (7/28/2007 9:24:54 PM)

Could a linked campaign be more flexible?

I explain. Could It be branched depending your result on previous battles? Something like the megacampaigns on SPWAW? And incorporating the tour of duty of the dinamic ones...

If not. Could it be done on dinamic campaigns? an hibrid of the random base campaign mixed with the more robust and creative principle of the linked campaigns?

My idea is one kind of campaigns that mix the good of both. Eliminating boring dinamic campaigns with unimaginatve maps and creating some linked dinamic scenarios :)

The idea of the megacampaigns on SPWAW was great and if I remember was something created from scratch, the original design of the campaigns on steel pantherswas linear.

Yes, that is how they are designed. Of course, it is up to the designer how much effort they put into designing the thing.

The Operation Sealion LCG that I created has numerous paths to fight, depending on how well you do in the previous scenario. Although relatively short compared to dynamic campaigns, if I recall correctly, depending on the path you follow you could end up playing 21 various scenarios as part of the campaign.

Ultimately, I would like to create the massive campaigns that you speak of for SPWAW, especially for Barbarossa, to give those that like playing the DCG's something better. That would be a huge undertaking though and something that would requires years of designing and testing.

Ok That was the key. So, All the LCG from CS are branched? Or just some of them? I never remember the path of battles especially on campaigns I have played 5 or 6 years ago.

I am very happy to hear that. :) If the project is on your mind the 99 per cent of the work is done... [:D]

So, It could be possible? Based on DGC or LGC?

Greetings and thanks for your hard work.

I don't know if all of the LCG's are branched, I have not looked at all of the files, but I would imagine they are, yes - to some degree.

It will be based on a LCG, as I prefer them over DCG's. It would be possible, yes.. just a massive undertaking.

What size are you thinking? Division? Korps?

I'd love to play a division sized or higher LCG....there's Craig Foster's "Invasion!", but something seems screwy with that one....

I had visions of grandeur many years ago to make a 6th Panzer Armee LCG for the Bulge....

Just found this excellent user-made scenario from the Wargamer called "Wacht am Rhein - The Northern Shoulder" created by 'zaxon'.........looks like a good start!

Do you know of good maps for that area?

I am planning on Division level. Although the various battles would start out smaller and grow as the user becomes more profficient.

The Library of Congress would have access to era 1:50,000 maps which I would recommend for map design.

Otherwise you can find some era 1:100,000 maps here:

Hope that helps
