How about telling us more about it before we d/l this.

What is modded?

Will it over ride existing game files?

Is it self extracting and loading? Are there install instructions...

Thanks...

From his post at Slitherine...

Some changes after playing:
1) Russian off-map production reduced. It was too high - set up so that Oil PP are part of the 200% GDP value of Russia. Russia gets 200% GDP + Lend-Lease Convoys + Possessions it begins with in Poland, Baltic States, and Bessarabia
2) Reduced Russian +1 fixed defenses, since most of front line are corps now not garrisons
3) Changes stats on Units:

Garrison has 3 Move
Fighter 5 Air, 2 Shock, 1 Naval, 1 Sub (+---)
Tactical costs 110, 3 Ground attack, 2 sub attack (++-)
Strategic costs 105, 2 Ground Attack, 3 sub combat, 4 oil (++++)
Sub costs 60, 5 spotting, 3 Naval combat (---)
DD moves 20, spot 7, ground attack 0, shock 2, Naval combat 2 (++-+-)
BB moves costs 90, moves 16, Oil 2 (+-+)
CV moves 18, attack range 3, sea spotting 8, air combat 2, naval combat 6 (+-+-+)
convoy survivability 0 (-)

the modfile includes the play rules and the Excel file with the stats

No you have to do it yourself but it is pretty easy.  I suggest:

1)  Select your Commander director, ctrl-a, ctrl-c and you will create a copy of commander directory.  Use this for your modfile.  Takes up some HD space but so what.
2)  Replace the text files under the /data folder - also I still have an error so under the city names text file open it and delete the city called "\" which I still have in there by accident manually - just makes the map look better.
3)  Replace the ww2.map and the 1939.scn folder in the data/scenario folder.

I can post more about what/why I created it for, and the system I used.  For instance, the Germans have a lot more units, but this is using 5:1 Ratio for Corps to Infantry Divisions & 3:1 for the Garrisons.

Economies are calculated from GDPs of Nations during the war.
USA is 50% because of Japan.  Granted they probably put more toward Germany but the US did put a lot of effort into naval units in the Pacific so maybe it evens out.  Hard to say for sure, but that is what I went with.  They also pay for 50% of the Northern Convoy.  The other Convoys are part of UK's economy.  UK includes Canada, Middle East, African Colonies, South Africa, and also UK now starts owning Iraq as well.

Units in Middle East also represent the help from ANZAC, Indian and SAF forces sent.  Syrian unit is the Free French.

All Economies increased overall vs. values used in standard game by 20-25%

The equipment changes are somewhat experimental but I like them so far.

PS If anyone is interested, I can start posting my stats or I can make them available for d/l on spreadsheets.

Joram -> RE: Historic Mod (7/30/2007 10:56:49 PM)

Assuming you used % of GDP devoted to the war effort versus overall GDP?  While the USA GDP is massive, they still only ever used 40% of their GDP towards the war.  The UK however used 60%.  And so on and so forth.  You would need to normalize for that to get the proper economies.  But it's a good question on how the US was split between Europe and Japan!  Haven't seen anything on that.

Vypuero -> RE: Historic Mod (7/30/2007 11:39:10 PM)

You know I don't really have any data on what % went to the war effort, but I believe the Russians had to have used a massive % of what they had vs. the US or even the UK and Germany until the very end.  Prior to that though the Germans get to exploit all their captured territories, and even at 50% that is a lot.

Irish needs to lay off the Scotch! [:D]

Vypuero, I didn't know any of that stuff either, I was just interested in your USA Europe vs Japan and found all the GDP information on all the countries pretty easily by searching.  The sites I looked at all pretty much agreed too so it's probably safe enough to use.  Try starting with Wikipedia...

IrishGuards -> RE: Historic Mod (7/31/2007 2:59:08 AM)

I have a source already:  The World Economy:  Historical Statistics by Angus Maddison
sourced from The World Economy: A Millennial Perspective, OECD Development Centre, Paris 2001.

Nice spreadsheet got from the net somewhere.

Version 1.3 = http://rapidshare.com/files/46232567/1939_Historic_version_1.3.zip.html
This one makes some changes to tech mostly and fixes a small glitch.

targul -> RE: Historic Mod (8/1/2007 5:08:58 AM)

Think they need to change the title from Rapid Share to only if you get lucky will you ever download from us.

Vypuero -> RE: Historic Mod (8/1/2007 4:11:26 PM)

Its actually pretty easy, but you do need to get past the idiotic stuff I agree [&:]

Just click "Free" then click one of the boxes, for example Download via Level(3) #2

enter the number/letters and click the download button!

hehe - wow, you are right, it is "rapid" -> anything but!
