So, I've always dabbled here, adding video cards, memory etc. But I never really designed and built my own PC from scratch, so after getting some inspiration from a few blogs I decided to do it. I am going to build a PC from scratch.

Here are the components:

Case - Antec P182

Motherboard

Video Card - GeForce 8800 GTX

Drive 1 (OS Host)

Drive 2 (Data - Seagate 750gb)

CPU (Intel Quad Core)

Power Supply (520w)

RAM: (2x Kingston 2x1gb)

CPU Cooler

DVD

I'll probably screw the build up, but I have always wanted to try this. I get back from Ohio Wed night so assuming the parts show up on time I could be building this thing by next weekend.

Should be fun. I am going to overclock the heck out of this thing!

I've put a few computers together in my spare time, but nothing like this. And I don't know any thing about overclocking a computer. I just know enough to get into trouble. [:D] Software is a killer for me. I can play with the hardware, but software is beyond my ability. Good luck, I know you will have fun with this project. I think I'm turning green. [:'(] Let us know how it runs. [&o]

Not really too difficult Shaun. Most people avoid it because they think they are going to screw something up. There's not a whole lot you can break, unless you don't use common sense and start pushing and pulling things that you shouldn't be.

I have always found that the static warnings were a bit over the top. I has never been an issue for me.

The most difficult thing I have found when building my own comp was getting the Serial ATA setup correctly. When you setup a winxp box you have to pay attention and hit "f6" at the right time to add "3rd party driver". I always had a heck of a time with it. Biggest problem is you can only load drivers from a floppy, so most times I just opened the case and had a floppy drive hanging out just for the install.

Not sure if you are going with vista or xp. No idea if vista makes it any easier.

I have built my last 4 home comps plus another 6 at work and I wouldnt do it any other way. Biggest reason is you don't get all the BS that is usually loaded on to the OS when you purchase from Dell etc. The last time I checked they wouldn't sell me a comp w/o all that stuff. I didn't build my last notebook, but when I got it I immediately formatted the HD and started all over.

As far as overclocking, I stick with ASUS boards and they have an anti overclock feature. Overclock too much and the bios wont let it start, then restarts it under the last config that worked. I imagine most mobo manufacturers have the same feature
