I'll just have to say again, this is a brilliant game. I'm 53. I've been around. This game is special. It has a chesslike quality, a simplicity but complexity. The AI is very good. This is fun. It creates tension. It makes you think. I found myself last night wanting to play just one more turn. Great game.

Agree, JW. I'm 52, and been gaming since AH's Gettysburg in '64. This is one of the best games I've purchased this year. The first time I've laid awake at night again just thinking "...one more turn".

I think the reception GoA first got is due to the relative differences in the play experiences of the various groups of buyers. Older gamers like ourselves are very familiar with the mechanics Frank is using here, and more quick to appreciate the automation of various boardgame conventions they replace.

GoA has a great depth, especially in various start-up deployments. I have a number of mobilizations saved in the setup files now.

A very elegant design, imho.

Well I can beat both of you I'm 54[sm=00000117.gif].

Great game Frank well worth the wait[sm=00000436.gif]

jwarrenw13 -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/2/2007 11:24:06 PM)

mereman, I knew you were an old fart.

Something else.  Thanks to Frank for coming to the forum and commenting frequently and in detail.  That is very much appreciated.  It is what tipped me to violating my personal rule and buying the game before the first patch.  Not that I've always followed that rule, but I usually do.  And btw it often leads me to not buying at all after the comments start pouring out.  It was clear in this case from the start, after the brief discussions about the interface, that the game was great.

AZKGungHo -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 12:15:34 AM)

Hey mereman,

I'm 54 too! Glad I'm not the only geezer out here!!

I haven't bought this game yet, and after buying 4 new tires for my truck this morning won't for a while! But it sure sounds good.

Isn't it a bummer when the unimportant things in life keep you from purchasing a game?! [;)] [;)]

I'm 52.

AZKGungHo -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 1:45:05 AM)

Hey LarryP,

Man, wargaming is an older hobby isn't it?

Yeah - it bugs me big time that have to things like pay bills, buy tires, etc. If I could do away with that just think of all the wargames I could buy! Then if I could do away with work I might even get to play most of them!!

Ahhh, in a perfect world! [;)][:D] Retire and play wargames. Never go to a doctor. Self fixing automobiles. Maids to furnish drinks and food, and clean your abode. Snap out of it Larry!! [:-]

Mightfox -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 3:06:27 AM)

Wow, 54? I'm only 17 here.

oldspec4 -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 3:17:27 AM)

I gotcha all beat...I'm 56 (almost 57). That's why I'm an "oldspec4"

flintlock -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 4:03:52 AM)

Good to read that GoA attracts all these youngsters. ;)

If we would of had computers when I was 17, I would have been playing with GoA instead of a girl named... nevermind. [:@] [;)]

SMK-at-work -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 5:54:06 AM)

It was toy soldiers when I was 17....but when he was 17 I was only 11, had a year to go before discovering toy soldiers, and a few more after that before being discovered by girls!! [8D]

Yea, I know how you feel; I'm only 51. Strange to have so many old guys in one place.[;)]

That so many are here is added proof that wargaiming is good for your health. It teaches you to keep your head down, among other things.

Yeah, it's beginning to smell like a Rest Home here. [:D][X(]

Now that 2nd statement you made, I ain't touching that one! [;)]

EDIT: Maestro, I see you are also from Nevada? I'm in the capital city.

Fastheinz -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 8:49:41 PM)

Easy boys, 61 here, been playing war games since early AH (Tactics), hope to meet some of you MP

jwarrenw13 -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/3/2007 8:56:58 PM)

Well, see, sitting here at the rest home, we don't have much else to do with our time, that is, besides group sex night.

That's where we sit around in a circle and talk about how it USED to be. [:D]

I'm in the city that pays for everything in the whole state-lucky you.

No time zone problems for PPM games, eh?

I figured that's where you are. You're correct, the entire state revolves around there. We even gave up our old area code for the sin city. [&o] [;)]

You know, I have never played a war game by PBEM.

06 Maestro -> RE: Thanks Frank (8/4/2007 1:48:37 AM)

Well, Larry, about the phone numbers, it just seemed like the right thing to do-not inconveniencing most of the people of the state.

About PBEM, I tend to prefer that for a real contest. The AI is good for leaning the system and for studying different situations. When the time comes to really test your superior ideas, then a competent human opponent is the way to go.

I'm still not quite an expert at GoA, but I assume, you are not quite there either. Perhaps we can give GoA a go this weekend.

Sorry about the thread drift. Tis is a great game.

You're right, I'm not quite ready yet. I don't feel comfortable enough yet with the game flow. I have been playing Tillers Campaign series more than GoA. I did however receive the manual for GoA yesterday so I can read that this weekend. It's not big but it beats PDF. [:)]
