Germany Summer 1939

And we're off... good luck everyone.

Germany conducts the usual training maneuvers in Poland and the N. Atlantic. Nothing worth showing as yet.

Only remarkable thing to report is that pilots from Swordfish squadron had a party until early in the morning for damaging a u-boat in the middle of the Atlantic. [sm=00000436.gif] [sm=happy0005.gif]

So Germany does not start at war with Russia? Could Germany postpone the Russian invasion to focus on Sea Lion (this was the planned amphib assault of Britain, right?)? I envision a "defensive" troop buildup in the East, perhaps a stab at the Balkans, but otherwise building a northern fleet to attempt Sea Lion.

tcart -> RE: 2x2 Tourney Rd 2: Tica/Polonthi vs RJH/A511 (8/3/2007 8:20:54 AM)

Germany Fall 1939
In answer to Mek's question, since the game starts in Summer 1939 the Germans are not at war with the Russians, no.

I can't believe Rafael scored an autohit on a veteran sub right out of the gate. Argh. To add insult to injury, his CAG goes veteran in the process.

Germany attacks the Low Countries and suffers no casualties in the process. The Allies are positioned for a counterattack, but will they take the risk? Could be a bloodbath all around if they went for it.

The screenshot shows the strong W.Allied forces in E and W France.

Fall 1939:

Japan:

A first attack on Changsa failed to take the place but did inflict quite a few losses to the Chinese army. Our bombers decided to take out the Chinese AA before attacking the factories. The skies will be quieter next turn for our pilots [8D]

Also some info for our German ally about Wallies spies.

Well you always learn something new while playing versus a human opponent, I thought I had protected the LF in the LC but Tim declared war upon them by bombing the port first and thus sinking the LF, afterwards he stormed his troops into them, well done[&o]

Now I had to decide wether to attack or stay in a defensive mod, so I chose to attack and I think it paid off, one fighter was destroyed over German skies in exchange of a figher and tb damaged, afterwards I attacked the german troops in the LC and even fritz loses were not as high as expected I got 3 artilleries damaged, not to say I suffered real heavy losses 8inf and 2 art damaged and 1 flak and 3 militia destroyed. But it was worth it because all damaged units went to factories either in the UK or the commonwealth, since France factory multiplier is cero.
So next turn France will fall, but hope that those units damaged will befcome a burden for German economy.
To be fair I did not expect this and imo it should be fixed.

Last but not least those swordfish pilots did it again [sm=happy0065.gif], booze is running low in the carrier's hold.

Germany Winter 1940

The Germans follow the predictable course and take out France, preserving the Western French factories in the process. Mussolini declines to join our grand alliance, unfortunately.

I have to say, the Allies have been remarkably luck in their die rolls to date. I look forward to things evening out later, perhaps during a few crucial Eastern Front battles.

Unfortunately for Rafael, French units sent to non-French factories still disappear when France falls. We rue the loss of three ART units, but the cost to the Allies in supply, plus the savings in terms of taking E. France and doing so in the Winter probably balances things out. Overall the OKW is not unhappy with events so far, except perhaps for the rather pathetic u-boat campaign.

We used all our airforce to bomb one factory. The rest of the frontline is quiet but some straffing on ground troops with our fighters. Chinese supply is running low [:)] but Anthony did the best of it with smart deployment.

Congratulations to our Axis friends. Thanks for Indochina [:o]

Germany Spring 1940
Italy joins the war. I really can't believe how woeful the U-boat campaign has been. Not much more to do there.

Instead the Luftwaffe bombs England but in a pitiful series of rolls succeeds only in damaging a single bomber. Odds were for 2.40 hits.

On a happier note, the relatively weak British presence in the Med allows the Italians to move aggressively. The Royal Navy is driven from the Eastern Med at a cost of 1 BB and 1 FL damaged against 1 BB damaged and 1 LF sunk on his side. Control of the ocean, in turn, allows us to land a moderately strong force right beside Cairo. I thought about landing in Jordan instead, but decided that discretion was the better part of valor.

For some reason most of the screens I took didn't get saved, so I'm left with only the information stolen by German spies.

Spring 1940:

Japan:

Strangely enough I was, before going on the forums, under the impression I just did play Summer 1940 already. Cairo under siege in Spring 1940 is a splendid result for the Deutsche Afrika Korps. Rommel at his best [&o]

The German report on US production indicates clearly that Roosevelt believes London will fall and he needs new carriers... or would it be some disguised threat against the Rising Sun Empire?

Chinese troops did prepare an offensive against our possessions of Indochina [:@] but it was brushed away with use of deadly force from a combined navy/airforce/army pre-emptive strike. We condemn the US for supporting such an obvious aggression from the Chinese government [:-] In retaliation we damaged 2 more chinese factories.

The pic to show 2 INF and 3 MIL before our bombing to leave 1 lone standing MIL at the end then the ground offensive to finish it off. All Japanese veteran troops but unfortunately it must have been too easy a task as none has been trained to Elite status [&:]

Germany Summer 1940

A somewhat busy turn for the Germans. We bomb the UK factories and lose a HV Bomber (a veteran) to, you guessed it, an autohit from a Brit fighter. It's interesting that with an EV rating of 6 the Germans can bomb the UK without too many losses even in the face of enemy fighters, a strategy I like to use.

Our greatly reduced u-boat fleet sorties into the South Atlantic. Two subs manage to damage a single transport. I should have expected as much.

The only theatre where we're happy (well, somewhat) is the Med. As the attached screenshot shows, Rommel takes Cairo and gains reinforcements for what will doubtless be a victorious march towards Iraq. Malta also falls.

The Yugoslavs refuse to launch their coup, however, which will cause numerous problems later.

Summer 1940:

Japan:

Of course Anthony wouldn't leave his Fighter in range of my Zeroes... well had to attack with 3 HVY bombers to try to get rid of it and bomb the last factory standing. His fighter is down and 1 HVY bomber sacrificed in the process. Not bad a trade. With the remaining Veteran HVY bombers I kept pounding his infrastructure. I'm glad I didn't need to use those to finish his fighter [&o]

Lend lease begins to roll in China.

Germany Fall 1940
Sealion!!!
With Yugoslavia refusing to boot out King Peter (or is it boot in King Peter, I can never remember) the Germans are in a bind. If we go for Barbarossa without our E.European allies the attack will be geographically challenged. But if we wait for them to flip once Yugoslavia is automatically shifted into the Allied camp our attack will be delayed.

It's a good thing that all along I've been trying to set up an invasion of England.

London was defended by 4 FTR, 1 AA, 1 ART, 1 INF, and 1 Mil. Germany had five transports plus veteran paras on hand. A massive air assault took out two British fighters and laid suppression on a third. A second wave put 10 suppression on the sole UK ART unit. But the cost was high: 2 Tac and 2 Hvy damaged.

Now the bad news. After the paras went in and the first Inf landed unmolested the British roll off three straight auto hits on op fire against the landing units. Two infantry are damaged. An ART unit makes it ashore because it's elite. In the ensuing battle we wrest London from the brits but the elite ART is destroyed. Talk about bad die rolling. Mind you, since we now hold a key allied capital perhaps we shouldn't complain too loudly.

I find that in general the Battle of Britain can be waged effectively without fighter cover. If the German aircraft are at EV 6, which half of ours were (note to self, manage tech better next time) you stand a good chance of giving as good as you get in airfield attacks.

One reason England was vulnerable was that Rafael had send huge forces to Jordan. Instead of attacking them head on we land in the Sudan, threatening Ethiopia.

Japan:

We congratulates Germany for it's superb air/naval action against England. We will send shortly a team of Japanese officers to study what did make this operation so succesfull. Maybe would we find an opportunity to apply this experience... one day... maybe... [:D]

Training of our air force by bombing Chinese troops is continuing [:o] 3 Chinese INF including one Veteran and 1 MIL are destroyed has having no intact factory left [8D] Now the part training is a total failure as not even 1 air unit got a Veteran status or Elite... nothing... zip... nada... [:(]

GER got lucky to score 3 autohit but GER still suffer heavy losses.  Not really impossible for CW to hold Scotland for another turn, but need to choose between, Scotland, Jordan and Ethiopia.

Yugo still remain neutral ... further delay or just no barbarossa at all.

Things are getting tough, the Kriegsmarine has been hit but those traines got away and still there is the Mr Meyers possible airlift bridge. Next turn will be the RN to stand and die[:(]

Scotland has been reinforced this time, the sooner the US and the USSR enter the war the better or might be nothing left.

Germany Winter '41

Alas, my screenshot selection was pretty bad. I was too focussed on the turn to take the right pictures. Sorry everyone.

The British commit to a do-or-die defense of the homeland. Five ARTs are brought back from the Middle East and the entire Royal Navy is thrown into the N.Sea and English Channel to keep the Germans from reinforcing England.

The Luftwaffe bombs the Brits, taking out 2 LF and 1 HF, but it's not enough to open up a supply line. Happily for us the invading army is well supplied and we reconstructed several London factories to ensure that it remains so. I don't think the Brits have enough ground troops to kick me out of London, either (though I sure hope I'm not wrong on that one.

Will he defend another turn in the face of overwhelming German airpower? The German navy was destroyed last turn, but we remain rich in transports and I'm happy to say that we gave as good as we got.

In the Middle East the British reinforce Ethiopia and retreat to Iraq. We obligingly move forces into position to take both next turn.

I, for one, and pretty interested to see where things go from here.
