in the end game of a pbem match rumania fell and the axis oil went to MINUS 555
As this was a pre patch game i ran some checks with the patched version
rumania falling causes a number of points to be deducted from the axis stockpile. Why? i can see no logic in this.

worse still even in the patched game you get NEGATIVE stockpile values, this is just plain silly, we all know you cant have a negative value here. it just cripples the axis and spoils the game and needs fixing ASAP
Dave

Yikes. For those of us who like to play a close games all the way through, this could be a real spoiler. Please fix ASAP!

Arkady -> RE: negative oil (8/2/2007 11:00:45 AM)

ploesti oil fields storage captured ?

YohanTM2 -> RE: negative oil (8/2/2007 2:02:38 PM)

would not take your reserves massively negative, just down

Vypuero -> RE: negative oil (8/2/2007 4:07:17 PM)

It must be a bug - hopefully will get fixed

targul -> RE: negative oil (8/2/2007 5:18:22 PM)

I ran out of oil and game would not let me move units requireing oil or build units needing oil so seems to be working correctly for me.

davetheroad -> RE: negative oil (8/2/2007 6:31:54 PM)

the main problem is you can have a negative oil total and until that total increments to positive you can move nothing. if you are running short of oil and say only have 10 points left losing rumania might kick you to MINUS 40!!!!
even the luftwaffe will be massacred if attacked in this state.

My worries are:
1. why have a deduction for losing rumania
2. how can you have a negative value

Dave

davethe road:

You might enjoy reading some of the histories of WWII about the strategic bombing and economic effects etc.

The Oil Fields in Rumania were the major source of production for the Axis. They were so important the Allied tried bombing them from their bases in Italy/Med using long range B-24s.

While we did not fully understand it at the time (we focused on ball bearings as a bottleneck) oil was the most critical link in the axis infrastructure. The early war was fought using stockpiles and imports from Rumania, the mid war relied on captured fileds in Rumania, and when they were gone a small supply of synthetic fuel and stores. Indeed, the quality of all axis fighters was hampered by a war long lack of high quality aviation fuel. Essentially we had "100 octane" and the Axis never much better than "90-95 octane rating" fuel. Even with full production their fuel was not adequate in quantity or quality.

Thus, except for going below zero, this is not much of a bug.

davetheroad -> RE: negative oil (8/2/2007 10:17:37 PM)

I know about the importance of the rumanian oilfields but that is not the issue.

why should the axis suffer a REDUCTION in their oil STOCKPILE when Rumania surrenders to the allies, this is oil already produced! The axis do get continued production at a lower level but did they really store refined product in Rumania?

why should this reduced stockpile possibly go to a MINUS number, you can't have a minus here. its physically impossible.
Dave

Vypuero -> RE: negative oil (8/2/2007 10:25:29 PM)

Its a bug, Dave - you are correct.

joliverlay -> RE: negative oil (8/3/2007 2:01:10 AM)

davetheroad

Yes you are quite correct. I completely missunderstood your point.

While there is surely some oil in storage after production, the bulk of the storage is perhaps elsewhere.

My bad.

Ploesti had several refineries, which by definition means they stored refined product, and some raids specifically targeted oil storage - eg http://www.afa.org/magazine/valor/0890valor.asp

but -ve oil is just silly....

Forwarn45 -> RE: negative oil (8/4/2007 7:51:10 PM)

As I mentioned before - it would be nice if this was fixed ASAP, hopefully by the next patch. It would be nice if the developers would say so. [;)]

YohanTM2 -> RE: negative oil (8/21/2007 7:13:27 PM)

When is this going to get some attention!!

We made a house rule that you could not take Ploesti but it is not the only trigger apparently as I just went -241 oil and all my German and Italian oil forces are toast.

This totally sucks

firepowerjohan -> RE: negative oil (8/21/2007 8:00:53 PM)

It will be fixed in next patch, no problem
