Are they anything to do with the US Navy radar directed glide bombs? I can't remember the name of them. They look like some sort of electrical gear

Tis indeed a BAT firing Privateer (PB4Y-2). I think the BAT was TV guided and those are the television receiver antennae on the sides of the plane.

Radar-guided. It grew out of the TV-guided Dragon missile but became radar-guided. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_(guided_bomb)
