I have to say what an excellent game. the mechanics remind me very much of the boardgame East Front from Columbia then mix it with SSG's computer game Clash of Steel and place it in WWI.
I am awaiting the first official patch and getting down game mechanics prior to a PBEM match. Who thought outside of Paths of Glory WWI could be soo much fun ? :)
I am beginning to wonder however if an East Front first strategy might be more inviting. As a predominantly CP player I am enticed by the opportunity to go after the resources in the east first and just defend heavily in the west. You will probably never gain those 3 resources located in Belgium and northern france but in PBEM I wonder if you could gain and hold the bread and oil near Roeun.
An advance in France cost 1 IP per activation and will require at least 3 to 4 to clear Belgium and luxemburg i presume. Whereas a 3 prong strike coming out of Prusian and East germany plus Northeast Austria might gain you in 5 total activations (perhaps less) the garnering of 2 bread and the city of Lodtz. The bread resource 2 hexes south of kovno is certainly reasonable on turn 1.
another quick questions/observations.
1) If you mix A and B quality units the overall unit effectiveness is "B" ? that is my observation-i was trying to bolster my B line with some A units and the quality in the combat report showed an 8 not 9

Each units fights individually - putting "B" (or C, D, E) units with "A" units does not make the "A" units fight worse. The combat report only shows the average of the hex, and is not what is used for combat.
