KahunaPete -> CHS + Nik mod 1st turn surprise? (8/10/2007 5:16:34 AM)

I'm using CHS 2.08 and Nik mod and wondered if the 1st turn surprise Dec 7th still incorporated?

As the Allied Player, I'm able to form TFs etc. prior to Japanese attack on the first turn and wondered if that was done on purpose.

Or does it really matter?

Was is purposely done to give the Allies one turn to do something rather than nothing on Dec 7th?

I read the CHS docs but it doesnt seem to mention anything about the 1st turn surprise and the fact that the allies get to do something on turn 1

If your doing "non-historical" first turn, then you can do what you want as a normal turn. As an Allied player, I like it for my PBEM's as I can go through all my air units and fill out the pilots and they don't count against what I have in my pool.
They are free!! [:D]

It doesn't depend on the mod. Game settings determine this.

"1st turn surprise" mostly limits allied air missions on Dec 7th. (Less CAP, fewer naval strikes, etc.)

"Historical first turn off" allows both players to give orders on December 7th. With historical first turn on, neither player can do so.

They're free for Japan also. I once counted it up. I forget the exact number but it was @300 - 400 extra (trained) pilots for Japan...

Interesting about the pilots, I didn't know that either.

Given the fact that there are quite a few unfilled squadrons, esp Dutch, grabbing a bunch of trained pilots would be critical.

I feel it is a good exchange for having a non-histrocial first turn.
I don't know if my opponent knows this, but this is one reason I am glad to go this way.
In CHS, the Dutch and Chinese benefit from this greatly along with the large LBA force at the United States base.
