Hey Jeremy,

I wonder if you problem has to with the fact that the Lahman database included with Puresim does not have the 2007 season. The last season include with Lahman's is the 2006.

Just a thought.

I tried it with 2000 as a start year too. No difference. The association year always reverts to the seeded player year. This also is broken in reverse...

Here's an association created with a start year of 1947 seeded with 2002 players....

I wish it were so simple as a Lahman issue but alas.

The year is now 2002, take that Jules Verne!

PS : I post this all for Shaun's and the game's benefit, not to be a whiner or complainer. I am trying my best to be a contributing member to the PS society. Jeremy

Sorry about that, it was just a thought.  Oh well I will be interested in what the real issue may be.

I need you guys to help me make a call. Example: If you set the year to 2007 and seed with 1932, after the first season is complete, should 1933 rookies come into the assn or would you rather have fictional players? This one is not a "bug" IMO but rather could go either way.

jeremy7227 -> RE: Seeding a New Association Start Year Issue... (8/14/2007 5:14:47 AM)

Yeah I agree, it could go either way. I would favor having the following year rookies come in despite the calendar year. That would allow you to pick up baseball history and move it around the timeline. BUT - if it went fictional it wouldn't bother me either as one could always import the entire subsequent season with "allow duplicates=no" to prevent overlap.... but then the talent pool is artificially rich because the fictional players would be generated first.

I'd say put it to a vote... but democracy is overrated. I prefer to leave it to your judgement Shaun.

Wow... good question.  I say that if a user wants to create an alternate history starting with a certain year of players, then they should set the year of the assn. to that import year.  However, if they want to start an assn. with players from a certain year, but have it begin any other year than that seed year, that fictional players should be generated in subsequent years.  Gives us two ways to play...

Overnight I came to a conclusion on this... there are two ways to have fictional players generated season after season in any year you wish in the game that both work well. SandBox mode and also if you do a PS Classic and don't seed the association you won't see any difference than the way it is today.

So my opinion is that if I seed my association with the year 1900 but I want to start in 2000 it would be great to have the rookies import based on a start year of 1900 but the association and statistical progression based on play in this modern era. Kind of like there would be two "season years" one for the association and one for the player pool.

I think that ideally the user would have either option. If we could choose at the pre-draft stage to either generate fictional players or import real players and then generate filler players to round out the pool that would solve both issues.

The issue with setting the year of the sim to that import year is that the statistical results trend toward the year of the association. The xml doesn't seem, at least to me, to affect the results enough to "modernize" an old season year of players. This is a compromise solution to being able to really sway the results through the xml.

I just wanted to add to this to make you aware that sometimes the association date will appear correct on the initial splash of the "Home" screen after association creation and seeded player import. However after you visit another screen, like view the player pool or your roster, the date changes to the year of the seed source.

I know it wasn't addressed in 1.66B so I wasn't looking for a fix but I wanted to bring it to your attention that at first glance at an association it might appear to be a non-issue but it is still happening.
