Bungle -> Range circles and recalcitrant pilots (8/22/2007 3:32:17 AM)

I must be doing somethig wrong here, I only get range circles (generally surface search and air weapon range is all I use) for individual aircraft but not for Airgroups ditto with weapon loads, cannot get a report for AG's only individual aircraft. Is this a bug, is it normal or have I completely missed something ...... again! [&:]

OK next, using standard database; AG ordered to intercept incoming aircraft and recieve msg, if I recall correctly, "have no weapons with which to attack" something of that order. I get this with the air ops button and attack button. Air group stubbonly stays put (fuel is not an issue and neither is ammunition) enemy flies by or to attack and lo if/when in range my AG fires of a salvo of AAM's, albeit generally too late. It is an issue which has cropped up on most AC heavy scenarios. I will gladly put it down to a foible of war..... still it would be nice to know if Im a complete tw@ or the game is just bouncing over a pot hole or two. [:D]

I'm pretty sure it's a bug. What I do is, close down the Tactical Window and cut a new one out of the strategic Window. That usually cures it BUT do be aware that launching at maximum range is not always recommended - you usually get a much better chance of a kill if you wait until the range is closer.

The AI will do this when ordered to intercept. That's why I never order aircraft to intercept - just plot a likely interception course and keep trying to attack until the game lets me.

Be aware the standard (original) database isn't guaranteed 100% compliant with ANW. Mostly it works, sometimes it won't.

See above. Getting a regular database is a problem for ALL versions of Harpoon. Bear in mind that the database structure only just changed with 3.8.0 being released and you appreciate that it's the start of a new era.

The game engine will NOT permit weapons to be launched out of range. Ever. However, you can use Ctrl-F1 to do a Bearing Only Launch (if the weapon is capable) will fire down that bearing and will activate (start attempting to find a target) from where you click on the screen.

Hmm, didnt seem to do much in regards to range circles, it only seems to be AG's that have the problem. I like to use them (AAW and radar range circles) as a quick visual reference to determine status instead of digging out the unit status window, individual ac do not seem to have this range circle problem.

An alternative to range cirles is to use the unit status and report window, howevers AG's do not show mount and sensor status in the report window either, but an individual ac will display mount and sensor staus in the report window. Is this common, a problem with the game or operator/expectation error [:(]

standard ANW database & players database 7.4.7....

Well, what I do is to flick on Range and bearing, then keep clicking from enemy to friendly group until the range is what I intend to launch at.

I admit it's far from ideal solution but it does work.

Messes up the message window and it's very easy to forget to turn off range/bearing info.

I just hope next update sorts out the basic issues like this.
