does anybody know what that box is for in the lower left of the map screen??? It's rather empty......

tks

SMK-at-work -> RE: map question (8/27/2007 4:57:53 AM)

It's an empty box - nothing else!![:D][:D]

it's where French north Africa would be if it were part of the game

MikeToth -> RE: map question (8/29/2007 4:39:17 AM)

well what's up with that???...

FrankHunter -> RE: map question (9/2/2007 12:14:26 PM)

It just didn't seem necessary to get the artist to draw a large area that wasn't part of the game.

Hi newbee here

The mini map seems under utilized. It would help the player navigate quickly if there was a filter on it to show different info (similar to HOI2)....like armys (dots), supply, battles, etc.

is this possible?

I know the overview map shows armys now but i feel its a extra step thats not needed if used by the mini map. The overview map can then be used to reflect more detail, like borders, detail armys info, recent battles (that can link to a log that allows us to review previous results), etc.

I'm just getting started here and like the game very much.

FrankHunter -> RE: map question (9/2/2007 8:29:06 PM)

Thanks, I've made a note of that.

Hakmeister -> RE: map question (9/3/2007 3:20:15 AM)

Here's another issue:  Two cities are missing on the map (terrain symbol).  One is Ostend, I'll have to check on the other one, but it's nearby.

And another issue:  The rules say cities can stack 14 points.  Not Arras, not Cracow, not a whole bunch of cities, especially in the Alps.  Did the rules change or does the map need an update?

I'll check the map over and post a list of cities that need updating if the rules are correct as written.

Good game.  I haven't fully delved into the strategies yet as I haven't had a chance to play to the point of getting out of 1914.  I have developed an historical setup that I think approximates the actual deployment of units in August 1914.  Some things I can't verify though, so there's a bit of guesswork involved in it.

Florence and Ostend are missing graphics - there's a thread on here that supplies a couple of JPG's you can paste into them - see http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1550341&mpage=1&key=ostend&#1550341

FrankHunter -> RE: map question (9/3/2007 4:59:25 AM)

And Athens too I believe?  The map is my fault, we had one with the cities on it and the sea zones and then I had to fix a map border issue and I used the wrong map, which became the "official" map.

uncc -> RE: map question (9/3/2007 4:24:52 PM)

fyi: During game play, there are also 4 city icons with no names: Bourdeaux, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Geneava. None of them really involved with gameplay except maybe Bourdeaux.

FrankHunter -> RE: map question (9/3/2007 8:30:57 PM)

Yes, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Geneva aren't actually recognized as "game cities".  I'll check Bordeaux, thanks

Lascar -> RE: map question (9/4/2007 2:37:38 AM)

Shouldn't Pskov, Russia be located at the southern end of lake Peipus; two hexes northeast of where it is currently located on the map?

Hakmeister -> RE: map question (9/6/2007 3:34:32 AM)

The other missing city terrain is Luxemburg.  Luxemburg actually works as a city.  It allows stacking of 14 even though the other terrain is forest.  Many of the other cities in non-clear terrain use the terrain stacking value and not the city stacking value.

Viking67 -> RE: map question (9/6/2007 4:16:56 AM)

Are there any plans to update the map?

FrankHunter -> RE: map question (9/7/2007 1:29:29 AM)

Possibly

Raynald -> RE: map question (9/7/2007 11:23:18 AM)

Why don't you use the "empty box" to display some play aid. That's what is often done with war boardgame.
For instance, the lacking figure of the unit with explanation could be put here. Or a detailed and commented sequence of play (including naval unit).

Or you could put here some of the stat that can be accessed only during the strategic phase (i.e how many Raw material, food, etc.).

Excellent idea, my choices would be different as to what aid to place in their. Maybe the jump map could be there, reducing the # of clicks to jump to another location.

There are many other possibilities and no doubt opinions

I did think of doing that but for one thing I couldn't think of anything to put there and the second thing was I didn't think having to scroll over there to see would be useful.
