karloskar -> A few suggestions (9/5/2007 1:18:40 PM)

Hello!

I like this game very much however there are a few things that I either have not understood how to do or they are simply missing, in my humble opinion. I dont have time to write all now but a few things.

1) Assaulting; When attacking I would like the option to combine all units bordering the unit that is being attacked. Lets say I have surrounded warzaw or Paris or just some odd unit on the russian front. I would like to be able to select all my units and attack with all of them at once. Having the garrison at warzaw restrenghten turn after turn especially when playing as allied spells doom for Germany very soon thus i would like to be able to knock it (and other units) out with a more powerful attack. Of course assaulting means less or no other action for the units attacking on same turn, I prefer less, not no.

2) I do not like the fact that once you have attacked with a unit it can do no more action. The fact that a unit that has attacked can not do anything else means stagnant and to easily defended fronts and especially some cities like warzaw can hold out forever since units that have attacked blocks the way for a second wave of attackers. So if first assault or attacks fails I want to be able to move first wave away and bring the other one in. Also it enables more tactics with knocking holes and continue to move in your panzers deep.

3) When attacking landunits with my tacbombers most often my tacbombers loose as much strenghtpoints as the defender no matter what unit type. Also the number lost I find to small. Noot good imo.

4) Additional units; engineer (construct forts). Paratrooper negate fort bonus.

5) As i wrote in another post in the thread of the desert front. Make Alexandria or Cairo an English capitolcity. Make it easier for western allies to increase number of troops.

6) When surrounding an enemy vessel at its port you find urself facing a ship that each turn is back at full strenght. Dunno if I like it...

7) In the scenarios/campaings have at least some leaders allready assigned to appropriate units. As it is now I only buy leaders when game is decided and oil and constructionpoints are in abundance.

More coming at a later moment i think.

One note about battles is, units have both attack value and shock value. Air and Armour have high shock values so they inflict morale losses on enemy reducing their effectiveness. A unit with low effectiveness will not fire back as much and will easily retreat so try using your Tactical Bombers before a ground unit attack and you will see you have soften up the enemy [:)]

In Geneneral I find that the game is well balanced when playing the Axis. Though UK seems a bit to weak in Egypt. Otherwise one have to play well to capture Moscow. Oil Consumption and FOG is compulsory in my opinion.
The game from the Allied side I have not tried out so can`t comment on that.

Regarded in historic terms, the game fails a bit to simulate the war since the Allies never seem to have an interest in Africa and Italy. Otherwise it is a impressing game in many ways.

The minor countries capital-restrengthening is not historic at all - it's really ridiculous for Netherlands for example.
You can also have Germany magically providing millions of Romanians to help the South front ...
If the game had a specific manpower pool per minor country it'll work better - for the moment I think that just disabling the feature (ie no replenishing at all) would be better.

About tac bombers I agree they're wimpy and need a good boost (easy to mod) in Ground attack - OTOH they fare too well vs fighters and need to have their Air reduced.

Minor Countries have their own manpower pool as well so can get manpower penalties. Minors cannot build new units and will not get nearly as good tech as the Majors countries so using them as manpower supply is an alternative that should be balanced in game already. Another disadvantage is that Minor units wont get leadership bonus from Major leader so while Manstein with leadership 8 boost all German Land Units by 16% the Romanians (for example) will not get any boost.

Reinforcing is limited by supplied. Max supply is 5 and that means you can reinforce 5 strenght. Nearly killing  defender means next turn it wont be on full strength. Furthermore, its effectiveness will be lower since it takes turns to recover [:)]
