FlashfyreSP -> ENH Das Reich Campaign (9/11/2007 3:49:04 AM)

Yes, you read the title right!

The Das Reich Campaign has been updated to Enhanced status!

Some disclaimers, first:

1. I can't guarantee that "gameplay" isn't affected by this conversion; the original 8.3 mech.exe is different in some aspects than the Enhanced mech.exe, as you all know. Some of those differences may cause the "expected" result to not be the actual result.
2. For the most part, conversion was limited to simple replacements of the original units with their Enhanced counterparts. However, in some cases, the originals were replaced with substitutes, as there was no counterpart in the Enhanced OOBs. An example of this would be the WP artillery for the US; it was removed from Enhanced because it did not work correctly, but there is one battle in Das Reich that used it. As a result, these were replaced by normal artillery pieces.
3. A number of errors were discovered and corrected; most were "missing" AUX units. Also, a few formations were replaced by newer ones, resulting a slightly different mix of units. A good example would be the original US Rifle Companies; they had a section of 2 60mm Mortar units, and a .30cal MMG unit attached directly to each platoon. The Enhanced formation has a Weapons Platoon, containing a Platoon HQ, 2 MMG units, and 3 60mm Mortar units. The original Mortar Sections were deleted and replaced by these new Weapon Platoons.
4. The texts files were cleaned up a bit, and some spelling errors fixed (probably still missed some).
5. The basic campaign data has been reworked, with the starting Build Points reduced; this was due to the Enhanced version having lower cost units overall, and this reduction was to keep the "core force" limit of 1 SS Kompanie and 1 Panzer Platoon in place. Additionally, the Rebuild/Repair points were reduced by about 30% for the same reason.

Now, this revision has NOT been re-playtested, so if the playbalance is off, or something looks wrong, please let me know and I'll try and fix the problem.

Hope everyone enjoys a "new" Das Reich experience!

I've never played this campaign because I've never been a fan of the SS.  However, I might give it a try just to test the play balance.  Thanks for the upgrade, FlashFyre.

Arctic Blast -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (9/11/2007 2:13:22 PM)

I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. When I do, it'll be THIS version, now. thanks!

I'm enjoying this campaign. I'm only getting mostly Draws, a few Marginal Victories. I've got AI at +200. Question(s):

Is the AI at +200 affecting the number of enemy units? Or is it already pre-set by the scenario designer? Any other impact from the AI at +200?

I can't remember what the AI rate does. It the same as "Hard Battle", right?

Thanks.

Goblin -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/26/2007 12:21:57 AM)

It will not affect your battles, which are pre-made by the scenario designers.

vahauser -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/26/2007 3:37:15 AM)

The AI level does not affect unit quantities.  The AI level affects three computer unit ratings (morale, experience, and rally).  Setting the AI level to 200 basically triples the computer units' morale, experience, and rally ratings.  They will be very tough to rout, they will rally extremely quickly, and they will be more deadly when firing.

Goblin -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/26/2007 4:59:09 AM)

I just did a test battle, giving the Computer 200 in AI. They were no more difficult to beat than normal, or so it seemed to me, and their ratings looked normal on their screen too. Do we have any confirmation that AI 200 (or whatever setting) does anything at all? Maybe add points to the enemy? They did seem to have alot of troops, though they were the Soviets, so it was hard to tell.

From the manual Q&A:

quote:

Q. What is the AI advantage button used for?

A. This number gives the experience/morale rating of the troops as compared to their intended
morale. IIRC Germany had a 75 point (average to vet) average on experience in '42, so at 133
percent they should have about 100 points (elite)

Does this affect pre-made scenarios? If the feature actually working at all? Anyone?

JEB Davis -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/26/2007 5:11:13 AM)

From the manual:
quote:

Changing the AI level give the AI increased experience and morale benefits that make it a tougher opponent. It does not change how the AI plays its game.
But maybe it doesn't affect pre-made scenarios, only random battles.  Or maybe it doesn't do anything at all.

vahauser -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/26/2007 10:53:33 AM)

My guess is that only somebody who can actually monitor the game code in action (perhaps using a debug tool?) can tell if the AI Level is working as stated in the manual.

Deputy -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/26/2007 6:06:27 PM)

I had ALL my setting set at max for Germany and minimum for the Allies, and I still took heavy losses in the first scenario. One suggestion...forget about infantry and paratrops, etc., for the Germans. Load up on Mk IV tanks and ENGINEERS. You will need them in the first scenario and they fight just as hard as normal troops. The MKIV seems to work slightly better at knocking out bunkers and pillboxes than the MkIII.

That might be because the MkIV has a larger caliber weapon. [;)]
However, there weren't many of them available, which is why the PZIII is the common tank for the 1939 period, when the campaign begins.

Hmmm Not sure Gobby, I am wanting to say this does NOT effect pre made scenarios and campaigns, but I really dont know for certain...Kevin should know this one

FlashfyreSP -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/27/2007 2:34:04 AM)

AI Advantage and AI Level are two different animals:

AI Advantage is an ON/OFF switch
AI Level is a setting from XXX to 200, in 10-point increments.

Neither affect pre-made scenarios/campaigns; these settings take effect during the setup phase, after a player has purchased his force for either a Battle or Campaign. Since they only work for the AI, it is difficult to determine whether the settings are, in fact, being applied. I suspect, though I have yet to confirm it, that the increases are not "displayed" in any Unit Data screen; I believe they are used to modify the base values "out of sight" of the player. That is, the numbers won't actually change in the data, but the calculations are made "on the fly" when needed.

Goblin -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/27/2007 2:39:29 AM)

OK, thanks Alby and Kevin. [:)]

DROregon -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/27/2007 6:07:00 AM)

Thank you Kevin, Goblin & Alby. As usual, you guys know or can find the answers.

(I guess I can't blame all my draws on the hyped-up AI. It's all me and my weak tactics)

Drex -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/28/2007 9:51:10 PM)

I just posted a question on the forum but maybe it can be answered here. I'm [playing Das Reich with the enhanced DV mod and am running into enemy squads armed with 280mm and 16" guns! I've upgraded to 8.4 with all three patches. Have I left something out?

BUT...did you download and install the "Enhanced" version of Das Reich???
If you are playing the "original' Das Reich, you will see some stuff liek this.

Drex -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/28/2007 10:44:00 PM)

Ah hah! I knew I left something out. where do I DL Enhanced Das Reich?

Goblin -> RE: ENH Das Reich Campaign (11/28/2007 10:50:34 PM)

See the first post in this thread, Drex.

Those must be the German Supersoldier squads. You should see the size of the arms on the guy hauling the 16 inch guns!!! [sm=00000289.gif]
