But it really makes a difference to whack a target with twice the bombload, so if you actually have the option, you might as well use A-29s to hit the more distant base, and keep the B-25s reigned in to normal range. -F- Hi Feinder, thanks for your comments. It´s Nikmod, not CHS. But reading your description of CHS, Nikmod seems not to be much different when it comes down to aircraft losses. Allied bombers have a reduced bomb load, they are nearly like Japanese medium bombers now, though they are more durable (which doesn´t help against the super flak though and they die like flies, even when flying at their max altitude). The Boston and Havoc in Nikmod only have a range of 6 while carrying 4 bombs on normal range (4) so the B-25 is better regarding range (8) and bomb load (6) but I can´t use the Mitchells against bases as I don´t accept losing more than a dozen every turn for nearly no result. Base suppresion seems to not really work in Nikmod nor in CHS for the Allies. At least it seems not to be worth it. What´s really frustrating is the fact that even months of bombing with thousands of bombing missions show NO effect at all - as you can see against the (in Hortlund´s terms minimum) garrisson of Kiska. Otoh the lowest possible altitude is not the way to fly either 'cause effect of light/medium AA guns is of course greatest here... Anyway usefulness of this tactic would depend on first the changes made in NikMod' device data and then on composition of AA units/devices in each and every particular base. Many Heavy AA Regiments in the base may make it worth one more try at least... BTW aircrafts flying below 2000 fts are fired at not only by AA/DP devices but by 10-20% of all other squads/teams in base hex (I guess it is to represent hasty fire from small arms of ground troops?). Dunno if it had any influence in case quoted above beacuse to have any effect large numbers seem to be neccessary. Still probably one more reason to not fly so low. Regards.

In any case, there won´t be anymore low level base attacks. Mostly we will now attack above the max flak ceiling.

I would guess that a BB that would be hit by 3 or 4 of those bombs would not be in a state to leave port after the attack. In WITP those BBs leave port with 6 sys dam and shoot up your convoys the night after. It´s not necessary to sink a ship, it would be enough to make it inoperational. In WITP this isn´t possible with bombs that don´t penetrate the armor - only if you achieve 50x2000lb bomb hits.

I think it'd depend on where the hit was. A 2000 pound HE bomb on, say, a turret roof isn't necessarily going to do much damage. Didn't Maryland take a kamikazi straight into a turret roof and not even lose the turret? I seem to recall the armor got dished, but the turret was still functional.

By pure luck (YES IT ONLY WAS LUCK ON OUR SIDE!!! [sm=cool0013.gif]) a bombardment TF entered the hex the same night as the Japanese ML TF which was hit hard! We sank several of the big MLs including ML Tsugaru which has a mine capacity of no less than 600 mines! 21 enemy MLs have been confirmed sunk so far, not bad, speaking of mine laying capacity, the enemy has lost over 50% of his capacity already. The TF wasn´t spotted during the day, this could have triggered airattacks by over 100 bombers. I won´t complain! [;)] Another example of how careless Hortlund is with his ships: ML Hirashima which hit a VH2 at Kendari a couple of days ago was reported sunk today! It sank OFF AMBOINA! So what? The ML hits a mine at Kendari, where it could be disbanded in port immediately and then it sinks off Amboina. Well, I even care about MSW, small AKs, in fact I care about every ship in my arsenal that can be saved (and I´m the Allied with ten times more ships than the IJN). Heck, I even try to save ships that obviously can´t be saved. Hortlund is of other oppinion! It seems not worth for him to bring damaged ships to the next port where they can be disbanded. I guess this did cost him at least 100 ships of all different types so far. Recon tells me that it wasn´t split off from the convoy, so if the convoy is still unloading tomorrow the Japanese commander could be badly surprised as a British heavy cruiser squadron will be going in at night to shoot up the transport convoy. If we manage to engage the convoy we should have a clear advantage. I expect to encounter a transport convoy with the now heavily damaged CA Kako, perhaps one or two DDs and a couple of transports. The bounce is what makes a superior aircraft to an Uber weapon and I don´t know if the bounce should have so strong influence. Strong yes, but I don´t know if it isn´t to much of an influence. Seeing those vessels is not good news. Many of my subs are a dozen hexes around the Philipines and we have at least 20 messages every day about a Betty spotting one of my subs. Rabaul´s Betties (250+) were transferred to Manila (which now has a dark airfield symbol) a week or so ago (6 Betty op losses at one day, and the dark airfield symbol at Rabaul vanished that day). They are now spotting my subs in this region and are there far away from being in danger to be transfered to Timor, Kendari or somewhere near Northern New Guinea to be let lose against an expected invasion. Our sub losses due to air attacks are again increasing. Amazing as they were always quite high anyway. [8\|] Yesterday S-22 was sunk by a Helen after taking two bomb hits, today of course again a Helen hit O-24 which just had left port a couple of days and now also is in sinking condition. 500 IJA Helens and probably somthing like 20-50% of 300 Betties are out for sub hunting... I guess at this point I already would... 90% of my ships in range of enemy search aircraft are spotted several times every turn. Also a lot of Betties are spotting my shipping around Darwin now, Hortlund has obviously moved them closer to the front again. It seems he´s concerned about my carriers being around Darwin now.
