Vulcain -> Bug with french language (9/28/2007 6:20:44 PM)

Hello,

It seems there is a bug with last patch (32..)at least when you use french language.See picture attached.

Can I change to english version without reinstalling the game?

Christophe

JAMiAM -> RE: Bug with french language (9/28/2007 6:30:12 PM)

Hi,

I can't see clearly from the picture, but it looks like some characters are misrepresented? Could you please let me know which character they are supposed to be and give me a complete list of all characters that are misrepresented. Thanks.

To change to another language, from your Welcome (Bienvenue) screen, choose the File (Fichier) menu option of Choose a language (Choisir la langue), then choose from the available languages.

Vulcain -> RE: Bug with french language (9/28/2007 7:08:59 PM)

Thank you for quick reply Jamiam.

Well there's a problem only when you right click on unit.

In this menu you should have french character "é" or "è" instead of that "Ã@ "

Here is the misrepresented:
[image]http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/338/toawiiifrenchlangbugxj8.jpg[/image]

Here is the good menu (in order of the list before):

-Disperser unité
-Diviser unité
-Reconstituer unité
-Embarquer dans train
-Embarquer dans avion
-Embarquer dans hélicoptère
-Embarquer dans navire
-Débarquer
-Réparer voie ferrée
-Détruire pont
-Réparer pont
-Déploiement retranchement
-Déploiement Réserve locale
-Déploiement Réserve tactique
-Déploiement Mobilité
-Ordres: Minimiser pertes
-Ordres: Limiter pertes
-Ordres: Ignorer pertes
-Afficher rapport sur l'unité
-Afficher rapport de formation
-Afficher composition du groupe
-Abandonner

I hope it will help .

Best Regards

Christophe

Yes, and thanks.

I'm moving this thread to the Support subforum, so that it doesn't get lost so easily.

Boonierat -> RE: Bug with french language (9/28/2007 7:42:51 PM)

I notice the problem with with the french "é" as well (although I'm running TOAW in english), my name in the scenario briefings appears truncated (Stphane instead of Stéphane). Not a big deal but I thought I remember the TOAW fonts were supporting accents before?

Telumar -> RE: Bug with french language (9/28/2007 7:48:28 PM)

Same problem with german. (actually i switched to german for the first time since the patch release due to this thread)

Never mind, it does show in the scenario briefing while in game, just not in the scenario selection screen.

Thanks guys. Anybody else with experience in any of the other semi-supported languages? Please do let us know if there are any encoding problems with the font display, both using the default bitmapped fonts, as well as any Windows fonts.

And here we go - as i have expected german 'Umlaute' ä, ö, ü cannot be displayed anymore, typing them in the editor doesn't do anything. Neither with windows fonts nor with TOAW fonts. Guess this is also true for french, spanish and polish special characters.

Damn it. This was fixed for .26, but when Ralph did .27 to fix the missing end of turn files, he must let this slip back in...[:@]

Thanks.

Will we see a fix for this issue soon?

What irritates me is this one: (hope you can see the ö in the unit name. It's from Erik's ABTF 44, we have started with the new patch)

sefirot -> RE: Bug with french language (10/1/2007 1:47:34 PM)

One of my opponents is having the same problems when selecting Spanish. In this case, all the accents are incorrectly displayed:
- Ãi instead of á
- é instead of é
- ó instead of ó

I can verify this, the German characters are not available in either TOAW or Win fonts.

The SS runes in the original TOAW bitmap fonts are replaced with 'empty squares'.
The 'Force rename unit' won't replace the 'squares' with ie SS.
This of course makes it a hazzle renaming all Schützstaffel units individually...

Erik

Telumar -> RE: Bug with french language (10/1/2007 3:46:18 PM)

It seems that special characters like ö and ü etc that have been typed in with previous versions of TOAWIII have been kept. But if one wants to type them the normal way under the new patch (that is simply pressing the ü - button i.e.) it won't work.
So, is there a way, a combination of several keys, that actually type these special signs?

It's so that i am working on a scenario and i can't continue without renaming all the Füsilier Bns to Fuesilier Bn as i want some of those units to be withdrawn (but cant type the correct unit names in the event editor!! [:@]).. i simply have no ambitions to rename them now to get the events working and renaming them again when the issue is fixed..sorry - this sucks.

Ralph, James...?

Telumar -> RE: Bug with french language (10/1/2007 4:02:36 PM)

@Erik: But typing Ctrl+B produced the SS Runes with the classical Opart fonts. Typing it now produces the square (as does every Ctrl + letter). I think you could do a global rename that way.

EDIT: Okay, figured it out, it won't work. Tried it myself.

Ralph's buried at the moment in his day job. Can you try exporting the OOB and events to XML, make the entries, and then see if it imports back in correctly?

If it will help.. i'll try and let you know..

Telumar -> RE: Bug with french language (10/2/2007 1:46:36 AM)

It works with the xml import. Events edited in xml, imported and special characters are displayed properly.

But i discovered another issue [:(] : I got the unit IDs (numbers) which are required for the xml events from the OOB dump and discovered that those numbers are one too high. I.e. i wanted to withdraw "4-schw./356.Füs" which has the unit ID 408 in the OOB file, so i typed 2408 as the unit ID in the xml file. When i imported the events i recognized that not the Füsiliers' heavy company was listed to be withdrawn in the event editor, but the unit "Gen.Lt. Greiner" (362.Div's HQ). This HQ was listed as unit #409 in the OOB file. I solved the issue by assigning the value 2407 to the initial event in the xml editor, re-imported and voila the right unit was listed (the Füsilier company)
The same with turns - i wanted the unit to be withdrawn on turn 80 and had to type in 79 as a value in the xml editor..

I use an application called "Notepad 2", a free "light-weight Notepad-like text editor with syntax highlighting" available from here: http://www.flos-freeware.ch/

I don't know...usually that's when I'm at my most docile, and blissful state, but that's probably not something that should be discussed on a board where younger members might be present...[X(][:-][:D]

Guys,

Reading this thread, something has just occurred to me. Am I right in thinking that the language.dlls provide (amongst other things) the strings for the menu items? If so, this would explain why I keep getting a blank line in the advanced options menu.

Best wishes,

Sic est. the language.dlls provide the menue strings. If you use an old language.dll, say from 3.0.17, you won't have the new options displayed..

The new language dll files should have shipped with the patch.

Shunwick, as you're the only one reporting this issue, do you have any clue as to why do you not seem to have them?

James,

Eurodate.dll. Is there any way that I can update this file? I notice that the members area has a language kit but I don't know if that was updated to the .29 specs.

Best wishes,

We haven't touched that in a while. The most recent language dll files were included in the patch, but what's with this Eurodate.dll? That isn't something that we are doing with TOAW III, AFAIK.

James,

Eurodate.dll is on the members download. It is a version of the English language dll but with the date showing in the British format ie. 9/11 = 9 November. It's not a great loss, I just got used to using it.

Edited to add: I just found Ralph's instructions how to modify the engllish.dll to EuroDate.dll. [:)] The download link for the xn resource editor (just in case anyone else is interested) is http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d10resourceeditor.htm.

James,

All problems solved. [:)]

Changing the date format to something civilized is simplicity itself following Ralph's instructions. I am not sure how "unsupported" it is supposed to be since it is an official Matrix download. [8D]

Since I now have a fully up-to-date EuroDate.dll would you like it to replace the one on the members downloads page? It is 103kb zipped.

It would seem that I am only one using it. The version on the members download page is now out of date and probably should either be removed or updated to avoid players getting confused.

Best wishes,
