After turning down all the settings and getting the game to actually function with my outdated video card I noticed that the yards are not marked on the field(!) Since that's a little more than I can bear I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for a good, but reasonably priced video card.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I'm looking for a card that will allow me to run the game at the highest settings.

Hi.

You video card only has 64MB of memory. You're simply running out of video memory for me to put the textures into.

There are a lot of places you can get good graphics cards. Whatever store you go to tell the clerk you want to play 3D games and they'll ensure you are given something capable. If you buy online, I've been told that newegg is good. I've never personally tried that one, but I've heard some good things.

Don't get anything less than 128MB DDR memory. I think if you buy something manufactured within the past year or two, you will be hard pressed to find something less than 256MB. The graphics card needs to support shaders on hardware. Some older cards claim they support shaders 1.0, but they do it via software so it's very slow.

Furtureshop, bestbuy, OfficeDepot, etc, they can all get you hooked up with a good card.

JasonnTN, be careful what kind of video card you get. How old is your computer? You may have a AGP motherboard and not a PCI-E. Make sure you order the right card for your computer. If you get a chance, let me know your specs. Chances are if you had a 64mb card you have the older motherboard that supports AGP video cards.

This summer my ATI card died, I got a new GeForce 7600GT from Newegg for about $115 after a rebate, got it in about 3 days.  There are some pretty good cards with 128 meg, GeFOrce 6400 or so that can be purchased for under $100.

Wait!  Do not get any card that is PCIe.

If your BIOS is 2005, and you have a GeForce 4 MX440 card installed, you most likely have an AGP bus.

The PCIe bus cards will not work!

Here is a really cheap card that will run the game:

I don't believe it will do the highest settings though. It will have speed problems with advanced shadows.

MSI GeForce 6200

Here are better cards:

Sapphire Radeon X1650 256MB

HIS 1650Pro 512MB

HIS 1650Pro 512MB

The card I recommended for nmleague (GeForce 7600GT in AGP) is priced much higher at this time than it was.

The Radeon X1950GT cards are fast, but they will cost you about $140 in AGP.

Note that none of these are DirectX 10 cards, but future DirectX 10 games will likely require more firepower anyway.

Also, be careful of your power supply. Chances are you probably don't have more than a 250 watt supply. I run a 512 7600 GS but I have a 350 W supply. I do have my old video card ATI 9800 Pro 128 mb. It can run fine on 250.  Let me know if you are interested?

Oops, bad suggestions on my part. I assumed you were looking for a PCI-Express card based upon the card you hyperlinked, but Marauders is likely correct - that you don't have a PCI-E slot on your board.

Best to look at his AGP suggestions.

Actually I have a 450W power supply. I've had terrible luck with burning those up over the years. I think I will spend a little to maybe give this computer some more time. I hope to replace it in about 12-18 months. But I said that about 12-18 months ago, lol.

When purchasing a power supply, it is often best to look at the power on the rails (12v ....) rather than the total wattage.  Manuafacturers can list just about anything as the total wattage output.  Nevertheless, I would hope that a power supply listed at 450w would be able to handle the AGP graphics cards listed.
