epaminondas -> Disappearing Generals (10/4/2007 1:48:23 PM)

I know this issue has been raised with an earlier version, but for the life of me I can't find the thread.

I'm playing 1.9.23 and I'm finding that when I call in an adjacent force to reinforce a battle, the units arrive but the generals assigned to them do not. I've played previous games on this latest version and the problem hasn't occurred but in this current one it has suddenly popped up.

Any ideas on why would be welcome. Any ideas for solutions would be heaven sent.

Thanks

Nobody else has had this problem?

Erik Rutins -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/11/2007 5:22:32 AM)

I was hoping one of the developers would respond, but as far as I know the generals have never accompanied the reinforcements in detailed battles. I agree that it's something I'd like to see as well.

Thanks, Erik. At least I now know that I haven't done anything screwy to cause this.

Ironclad -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/11/2007 8:28:36 PM)

Generals are appearing with reinforcements in my current game and I am sure that has been the case for sometime. You may need to reinstall the update and see how your saved game works.

Edit: Like you I can't find the previous thread.

I wanted to double check the code.  I thought that generals were accompanying reinforcements now, though it may be only generals that are directly attached to the unit that was named as reinforcement.  I'll have to check the code.

epaminondas -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/12/2007 10:03:29 AM)

That's what I was getting - the general commanding the reinforcing formation only. But now I'm not even getting him.

I'll try reinstalling as Ironclad suggests. Thanks for your attention, guys.

Curiouser and curiouser.  Continuing the same game (without reinstallation).  In a single turn - but two different battles - one reinforcement arrived complete with its full set of attached commanders, and one arrived completely sans commanders.

Puzzling in the extreme.

Mus -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/17/2007 3:22:43 AM)

I had wondered if there was a "leader cap" above which leaders were excluded if they are coming in as reinforcement.

epaminondas -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/20/2007 9:45:21 AM)

Seems a plausible idea, Mus, but I've done some trial and error testing and that don't seem to be it.  Nor does supply level seem to be an issue, nor size of formation (army, corps, division), nor rank of commander, nor presence of telegraph.  Just can't pin it down.  Maybe it's an actual bug.

ericbabe -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/20/2007 6:38:10 PM)

Since I'm not even sure what the expected behavior is, I'm not even sure how to judge whether or not the code is working as intended [:)]

epaminondas -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/21/2007 2:39:46 AM)

Sorry Eric, that wasn't meant to be a swipe.

Part of the issue I'm encountering is that there is no expected behaviour. The system does one thing on one occasion (e.g. all attached commanders show up), something different on another (only the commander of the formation shows up), something different again on another (some commander(s) other than the formation leader shows up), and something different still on yet another occasion (no commanders show up at all). But it's also the case that I haven't reinstalled the patch and restarted, so maybe I just got a bodgie download.

I'm also using some modded leader values for ratings and special abilities but, once more, I can't see how they would produce such variable results. I'm about to wrap this game up; so I'll wait for the next patch, see what eventuates then, and get back to you. Thanks.

No swipe taken!

Erik Rutins -> RE: Disappearing Generals (10/21/2007 1:37:30 PM)

Eric,

Ideally, attached generals should accompany reinforcements. I think you were going to do that once but I didn't think it got done. Apparently, it must have, but not in all cases. I haven't seen them show up with reinforcements personally but it sounds like they do in some cases, would be great if they did in all cases.

Regards,

- Erik
