Joel Rauber -> V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/15/2007 7:38:34 AM)

Forgive any repeats:

a) Getting a trench.exe error message at times, the game proceeds normally. Sound is on when this occurs message reads "EwaveaudioSysError in module Trench.exe specified device handle invalid"

b) Naval battle report screens. The overall report in the top boxes seems sometimes not show ships that have been sunk. Some ships will have a 4/3 e.g. which I assume means 4 hits that turn when it can only take 3 and is therefore sunk. Other ships (mostly transports) I see taking a hit in the bottom boxes but they don't appear in the top overall report boxes. The instance I specifically remember, a transport took one hit in one battle and its damage above was reported as 1/2, than in a later battle that transport was hit but it didn't appear in the top boxes, so I assumed it was sunk.

c) A few times I"ve had a situation where a few units were unable to move. I would click on the unit and all choices were grayed out. (this hasn't happened often, I noticed it in a Nov/Dec turn.

d) Bulgarians seem to be unable to buy a HQ attack, despite having 3 industrial points available.

e) The country screen where you should be able click the country and see how morale values were arrived at seems to not be updating correctly or updating at all. (I have a save of the first time I noticed this.) E.g. I'm the CP and look at the German table. I see Morale lost to political events as -17 and I see 92 casualties. But morale lost to date is listed as zero. And these numbers haven't changed in over a year of game play. Same for the AH and Turks.

Minor countries need 9 points for that. If u given a German/ AH point then that equals 3 minor points tho. Conclusion minor points only equal to a 1/3 in general of major points.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

That's an issue with the sound library.

Your assumptions are correct.  I mentioned quite awhile back that the reason I didn't put overall damage in the display or say certain squadrons were sunk was because the time lag might make it confusing.  The above is a good example.  What's important to remember is that you're getting those reports after all the naval phases are completed.  So "sunk" ships will often participate in battles because they weren't sunk yet at the time of the battle.

I'm not sure of the situation but if you have a save of it please send it on to me and I will either explain it or, if its a bug, fix it.

Walloc is correct

All numbers are morale lost.  So when you see a negative number its actually a gain in morale.  Confusing?

Thanks for the answers,

Unfortunately I don't have a save of (c), if I see it again I'll save it.

(e)  That explains the negative number, I have to teach things like this all the time (a negative loss is actually a gain).  The major problem is that I'm not seeing these numbers change over the course of the game.  I.e. after a certain point (don't know when) it seems to quite updating.

Joel Rauber -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 6:52:11 AM)

(c) I understand this now, it is not an oddity; the units in question had entrenched that turn using up their movement capability

Joel Rauber -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 6:53:27 AM)

Oddity (f)

Britain surrendered, but the news continued each strategic turn with some adverse news for the Germans due to British activity. I suspect those type of events need to be turned off when the victor country of those events has surrendered.

SMK-at-work -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 11:01:49 AM)

Or perhaps label them "and what really happened...."?

SteveD64 -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 4:28:45 PM)

I'm still playing with beta2 PBEM so I was wondering if some things have been fixed in beta5

1) I encounter strategic movement problems when moving next to enemy units- my corps end up in the adjacent hex and not the one intended.  Happened several time trying to move units into the Alps to defend against Italy.  This happened whether the hex was attacked (which I understand) or not.

2) I attacked Lemberg with four Austrian corps and took it.  Only one corps actually occupied the city- the other three stayed behind in their original hex.  Why?

3) Disappearing uboats.  Beginning in August 1914 I've lost every single uboat I've ever sent on an anti-shipping mission with no notice on what happened.

SteveD64 -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 4:32:23 PM)

On 2).  If my four stack hex that I was attacking from was bombarded while attacking a different hex would that cause my units to participate in the attack but stay behind afterwards?  It's the only possible explanation I can think of.

FrankHunter -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 6:33:26 PM)

Cleveland,

#1, was fixed in beta 5

#2, did they have enough readiness left to make the move?  If they were being bombarded as well that could be the cause

#3, can't say I've seen that one before.  Anyone else?

SteveD64 -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 8:07:51 PM)

RE: uboats, since I can't wage an anti-shipping campaign I've been using them on patrol.  Everything works fine and I get notice that the uboat attacked a DN or whatever and how many hits etc.   I send them on an anti-shipping mission and they are never heard from again.   On the positive side America is still a long way from joining the war but Britain is basically running amok.

MikePalmer -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 10:22:50 PM)

I have not had U-Boats disappear. They do, of course, eventually return to base on their own after a few turns. They're back in base.

SteveD64 -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/16/2007 11:03:49 PM)

Mike, do you get reports on what they're doing out there? Hitting transports, getting hit by destroyers etc?  this is PBEM - I'm not sure if that is a factor or not

MikePalmer -> RE: V1.2 beta 5 oddities (10/17/2007 5:02:38 AM)

Haven't played PBEM yet.

After I allocate my naval assests and complete that phase (strategic?) I usually get a couple of menus that pop up telling me about various naval actions, followed by one that indicates which alliance controls which seas and how many of my ships remain in a given area.

Ships do have an "endurance" rating that, I think, indicates how many turns they can remain at sea before they "return," assuming that they are not damaged sooner.
