Good. It is good to see the aircraft preserved.
By the way: Which James Bond movie featured the Vulcan bomber?

John 3rd -> RE: VULCAN flies again! (10/19/2007 5:26:54 AM)

That is a cool article.  Good to see an old warbird flying.  Makes me fondly remember the days of the Confederate Air Force!  THEY could put on a real show...

afspret -> RE: VULCAN flies again! (10/19/2007 7:19:47 AM)

Glad to see a classic cold warrior returned to the skies. I was stationed in England in the late '80s and had the pleasure of seeing Vulcan flying displays at several airshows.

JeffroK -> RE: VULCAN flies again! (10/19/2007 9:41:05 AM)

Huh, Only 25 years since it flew[8D]

http://www.aviationmuseum.com.au/museum/

Temora Aviation Museum in New South Wales has (relevant to the WITP thread) the worlds only flying Lockheed Hudson (saw action from Milne Bay with 6 Sqn), the worlds only flying CAC Boomerang II plus the more common Spitfire VIII, Wirraway, ex Dutch Ryan STM plus some more modern typres like the worlds only flying Meteor F8 & Vampire.

I sit here and drool over the types available in the US, UK & Europe!!!!!!

Mac67 -> RE: VULCAN flies again! (10/19/2007 11:08:55 AM)

XL426 is based at my local airport. Apparently theres only 15 complete surviving Vulcan airframes left in the UK, so its good to see people are doing there best to preserve this bit of aviation history.

Correctomundo... thanks to these other survivors 'Delta Lady' flies again, they were canibalised for 'spares & repairs' to get her in the air again.

The same for spitfires to keep 'the few' in the air......sadly others had to be sacrificed[8|]

I bet she didn't fly across the country we unauthorized nukes. [:'(]

crsutton -> RE: VULCAN flies again! (10/20/2007 11:32:05 PM)

In the late sixties, my father too me to an airshow at Dulles airport near Washington DC. The only thing I remember is when the vulcan bomber did a flyby. It came over the filed at treetop height and then just went straight up in the verticle like a rocket. That image was forever imprinted into my brain.....

bradfordkay -> RE: VULCAN flies again! (10/21/2007 7:20:52 AM)

When I was in high school the Virginia Air National Guard squadron at Richmond had F104s. Byrd Field's runway is aimed directly at I-64 and the end is only about half a mile or so from the freeway. Since there is a prohibition against low level flights over the interstate highway, the Starfighters would stay at barely above treetop level until just before reaching the freeway, whereupon they would go into an immediate verticle climb. Seeing that never failed to get your blood moving...

Has anyone else read Vulcan 607, the book about the first Black Buck mission. There's a short section at the start describing the Vulcans low level tactics, including flying below the level of the Grand Canyon during Red Flag. [X(]

It's good to see she's flying again, just a shame she wasn't ready for Falklands 25 a few months back. I would have loved to have seen her fly past Buck House [:)]

That's right , i distinctly remember them saying on the day that their was a problem....something about its flight safety certificate and flying over London airspace....the powers that be must have had visions of it falling out of the sky.
Although i would have been more concerned about the loss of XH558 that the buildings it would have wiped out[;)]

However, we now have something to beef up our air shows hopefuly for decades to come!

I seem to recall something about the flight safety cerificate as well. There shouldn't be too many problems with the Vulcan flying over London, as she's a multi-engine 'plane though. There are limits on single engined stuff flying over central London.

Curty -> RE: VULCAN flies again! (10/21/2007 4:18:46 PM)

I suppose that rules out a micro-light flypast then[:D]
