BB56 -> Which mod to try. (10/23/2007 9:59:14 PM)

I'm finishing up my second stock game against the Jap AI and I'm ready to try one of the many many many many mods out there, just not sure which one.

I want to use AB's extended map as it look so cool and I like the addition of Aden and Panama. But as I said, there are so many mods to chose from.

First, I can only play the AI as I don't have the time to commit to PBEM. (Nor the skill as it still takes me until late '44 to beat the Jap AI.)

As I looked up each mod, I see that they all have something different to offer, but what I'm mainly looking for is:
Accurate aircraft ranges so I can do more with the Ventura than upgrade it to PB4Y's.
More historical aircraft. I saw one mod that had the P43 Lancer and I think another had Lancaster's. (I love Lancaster's. Such a lovely looking plane.)
Lower AK/AP/TK/AO capacities to slow down the flow of troops, supplies and fuel.
A reason to do more in China that shoot down Nates and Sonias.

I'm sure each mod has other things to offer than what I listed above, but these are the main things I'm looking for, so any suggestions would be appreciated. (Yes, I've searched other threads and as stated above, it is all so confusing.)

Thanks in advance.

On a side note, is there anyone out there who can create me a banner of BB56 with guns blasting? I'd really appreciate that.

Thanks again.

Surprisingly difficult to find a picture of the Washington firing her guns...

This isn't really interesting enough, but then I'm not much of an artiste...

Speedysteve -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/23/2007 11:04:48 PM)

Hi BB56,

I personally would also recommend CHS. Maybe even CHS Nik Mod which gives a database with a greater degree of accuracy, a more accurate map and a better A2A model (IMO) compared to stock.

Terminus -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/23/2007 11:18:09 PM)

Yeah, if he can install it without the multitude of bug reports that have been cropping up lately.[:D]

But still, Speedy's right; go for it, and ask on the forum if/when you get in trouble, installation-wise.

Not according to High Command.[;)][:D]

If you play an experimental scenario, be prepared for unexpected surprises down the road.[;)]

Stick with the standard CHS scenarios.
Unless you're playing against the AI.
Then who cares...[:D]

Nonononono, you don't understand! The whole game is broken! He's studied WWII, so he knows![8|][:D]

DD696 -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 12:30:35 AM)

I only play against the AI, so according to you I should not care.

The only trouble for you is, I do, and I would suspect that the vast majority of the purchasers play only against the AI, so according to you, they do not care either.

You are wrong. Without us buying this game you would not have a platform to make your silly statements.

Terminus -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 12:43:25 AM)

I don't actually play the game anymore, but when I did, it was mostly against the AI. Tried PBEM's, but they always seemed to fizzle out really quickly.

Speedysteve -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 12:50:26 AM)

You make a valid point DD since I never play the AI anymore. I'm afraid we'll need to ask others on this but are CHS/Nik Mod playable against AI? I don't think they are.

John 3rd -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 12:56:24 AM)

You must try Big B's Mod.  I have two as Japanese running and one as the Allies.  Air-to-Air is far better, China is a Japanese nightmare, and the OOB appears to be rock solid.

My .02

Terminus -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 12:56:26 AM)

I think the general answer is "not very well". Adding a lot of stuff and moving things around confuses the already poor Artificial Inadequacy...

Mistmatz -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 1:31:14 AM)

Playing vs AI you probably want to strengthen its position/assets in order to have more of a challenge. If I understood it right there is a submod for RHS, I believe its called RHSEOS or something, where the japanese side enjoys a significant boost albeit ahistorical. Don't know how well this is playable vs the AI and maybe you should be quicker to get them down as the allies might get their better toys later on. Or you can always limit yourself like remove one CV per year or something similar.

ny59giants -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 1:40:09 AM)

Even though I haven't played RHS, I think there is one of the six scenario designed specifically for a game against the AI. The installation of RHS is not as easy as CHS which is more difficult than stock. All depends how computer savvy you are. [:D]

Halsey -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 1:59:37 AM)

Ah, I guess you should have stated that you were looking for an AI mod in your first post then.[;)]

At least the AI won't quit a game because something gets borked later on while playing.[:D]

CHS should be playable as the Allies against a Japanese AI. It is less playable, but still possible, to play as the Japanese vs an Allied AI.

Big B -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 2:44:39 AM)

B-Mod will play as well against the AI (either side) as stock will, it was done with that in mind.

How well stock AI is - people have varying opinions on.

BB56 -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 3:36:05 AM)

So, it looks like Big B is the way I should go.
I went to Andrew's site and I can see the CHS page with all the various downloads, as well as the page with Scenario 192 for the Extended Map.  I take it that everything I need, including how to install all the files is on those 2 web pages.
I'll give that a try.

Thank you.

Oh, Terminus.
Nice BB56 pic, especially the tag line on the bottom.  How do I get it and attach it as a sig line?

bobogoboom -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 6:46:33 AM)

Copy the image to a service like image shack and when you upload it they should provide you a link you can put into your profile to have it showup

It's either BB55 or BB56, can't see the hull number. Nice pic, though.

I'll give that a try.

On a side note, I downloaded AB's Extended Planning map jpeg and I noticed 2 things:
Those brown areas on either side by Panama and Aden. After looking at them, I realized they were a way to increase the distance from these 2 locations to other ports on the map. Nice.
Other thing: I can see the blue dotted lines separating weather zones, but what is that yellow dotted line going east by the DEI, taking a right at Ceylon, another right in China the going to Coral Sea and back again. I don't see anything identifying this on the map, or did I miss something?

bradfordkay -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 7:28:36 PM)

I've been using AB's version that does not have the zone boundaries, but IIRC what you are talking about it the malarial zone boundary line.

m10bob -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 8:48:33 PM)

Both of those pics I posted are BB 56. The one in front of the line is BB 56..

Terminus -> RE: Which mod to try. (10/24/2007 9:14:22 PM)

I seem to recall that the second one was taken at Hvalfjordur in Iceland.
