I have found that the guns of august save games fail more often then they work. Is there a reason why when I save a game the files when open have no information that the game can use?

The files open but no units are in the game and you can't do anything. pressing the continue button has no effect except to give a divided by zero error message.

Are you using the right version of the game?  Some of the later patch beta's do not work with games saved with earlier versions.  IIRC 1.2 and later will not work with games saved in 1.0 or 1.1, and 1.5 and later will not work with games saved with any earlier version.

Other than that I've only ever had 1 PBEM file that transmitted 0 length.....the file at my end was fine and sending it a 2nd time resolved the problem.

No all my save games are with the current full non beta patch (1.10) I have no other save games as I just bought the game and never played before i patched the game..

Something is odd, I've never had a save game not be able to reload and be fully functional.

I can't say I've had problems with loading saved games.  The only "problems" that should occur is when a scenario version doesn't align with the game version.

Ok I don't know what to tell you currently but I have uninstalled the game and installed in again and I'm getting the same problem. Can you only save the game at certain points in the game? I KNOW its not wrong version of the game vs version of teh saved game file. I just installed the game TODAY and never started the game until AFTER I applied the patch which i obtained from this website. I could really use some help resolving this because this issue makes the game's playability zero.

Yes, you can only save at certain points.  The SaveGame button should only be visible at those points.

You say sometimes the saves load properly?

What are these points that I am suppost to be able to save the game? I seem to have a save game button at every point in the game except when the ai takes it's turn?

If the file saves corretly then I can use that file but so far thats only happen twice. If the file doesn't save properly then I can't use the file ever. The problem being the only way to know if the save game file is ok is to try it but that means I have to lose my place in the current game.

Basically whenever the game is stopped you should be able to save.  So on strategic phases, and orders phases nothing is going on in the background.

When you get bad saves, are the file sizes the same size as the scenario files?

Ok I have tried saving in the strategic phase, activation phase and the orders phase and all phases I've failled to get a good save file. only good save files I got (two) was in the first two strategic phases. After that they all fail. So I have never gotten a activation phase good save nor a orders phase good save. And by the third strategic phase I don't get good saves in teh strategic phase. But I should point out that even in the first two strategic phases I am more likely to get a failed save game file then a good save game file.


Yes the files are all the same size, 698 kb.

The failled save game files are good enough to load but if I use the continue or victory buttons I get a divide by zero error message. which indicates to me along with the complete lack of units and the control button (no error just the maps stays blank) not working that the save game files do not have the game's information saved to them.

I could send you two game files, they are very small at 698 kb. If I sent one that works and one that doesn't it might help if you tried them and looked at the data. If they both work on your end then we know its not a problem with the files but my game. Perhaps I got a bad cd.
