2-27-43 After the battle of Rennel ended I almost immediately began a medium scale invasion of Borners bastion at Irau. First to keep pressure on him and bring all the attrition that would go with it and, two, to keep him off balance and unable to get set for a counter invasion on Rennel. The first objective has been mildly successful I think but the second, if he ever entertained the idea of recapturing Rennel by counter invasion it left when I invaded Irau. As he mentioned the vast majority of damage to me has been done by the mine. It has been written on these forums the mine will never stop an invasion. That may be true...partially. They might not stop an initial invasion but they certainly might stop a future second or third invasion and at least delay their launch date, and that´s all the Japanese need to do. But, nevertheless they´re are now roughly 35,000 Allied troops fighting around 25,000 Japanese troops on Irau. This has been the situation for about a month now. The biggest suprise for me was the fortification level he had achieved there in such a short time, 9 I think! It has taken a month to beat it down to five. Although I never planned on blitzkrieg the island that has extended the fighting out. The issue is not in doubt however and it has to be done, so it´s being done. Brian mentioned my supply interdiction against him. Originally I thought single ship convoys and such basically were given almost a free pass against air attack. That I wouldn´t be able to much about this. This is not true and I think he can testify to that. My bombers are attacking his convoys and barges quite a lot. It´s almost a double edged sword. The way the combat works out single ship convoys get no CAP cover. So although they may have a better chance to slip by, when attacked the attacking bombers are the ones given a free pass. From where I stand the 4E in a naval interdiction roll is effective, losses to them low, and increases their experience rather fast. As he said, my bombers are attacking everything floating, single ship or not. The points spread is still disgustingly wide, for me...but, surrender is not in my thinking and I still have lots of time. As well if time does comes short a late game run around invasion to Truk or Rabaul might be enough to close several thousand points rapidly. If I see any chance I will go on and will keep hitting him. It´s like this. [image]local://upfiles/19240/638A09B02294419EBEB4CD89896FE989.jpg[/image]
