Rommel3 -> Disregarding naval DP guns in Witp (11/4/2007 11:11:10 AM)

(I'm poor at english, sorry)
Many(most?) of 5in,4.7in 4in naval Gun used as DP gun. But in Witp, even in Mods disregard this.

Were those DP guns useless?

Yes many of Japanese and British DPs were almost useless and had elevation limitations, that is the reason many are classed as naval guns. Also because the game doesnt allows for a DP range Vs Naval range.

There are Big(jap-5"/40,USA-5/38) Small(25mm AA,20mm) AA Gun. which one is more effective? In historical term and game term

If Big one is better i gonna use more Akizuki, Matsu Class as AA escorts.

Well, effective against what? Bigger guns fire at higher targets, light AA fires at lower targets. Generally speaking, japanese AA is horrible, with the exception of the 3.9" DP gun. The opposite is true for the allies, with a few bad models but most of the rest being quite good.

You also need to consider the Fire Control. The Japanese were pretty much "look and shoot at what you see" throughout the war, while the Americans developed fire control radars fitted down to the level of the individual Quad 40mm mounts...

More than likely...just about every aspect of the game has been discussed at some point..

But In the pacific naval warfare It was generally low altitude. it'snt it?
My consideration is the fact japan installed many 25mm's to DDs which had useless 5"/50 and there were small DD's which have better DP gun. So Which one is better choice for AA escort as jappan side. I know generally WW2 AA guns are not trustworthy especailly japan side. but choice is choice.

After they get their significant ASW/AA upgrades, the old DDs make excellent CVTF escorts, as long as you don't mind refueling them every couple of days.

Best escorts for that purpose are Akizuki class. Designed with carrier escort in mind.
