jdhalfrack -> [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/5/2007 12:00:37 AM)

File Name :: Max FB Database Editor v 1.3
Author :: JDhalfrack
Description

Uninstall the old version before installing this newer version!

MAKE A BACKUP before using this program. I am not promising that there will be no errors/bugs that will ruin the file.

CHANGE LOG v 1.3
- Added the ability to change the player bio
- Added the ability to change the player's position
- Added the ability to change the player's years pro
- Enabled the ability to change the player's "Date of Birth" option
- Added the ability to global edit / randomly assign years pro
- Added the ability to sort/global edit rookies (players with 0 years pro) <-- for armyofone
- Added the option to randomly assign junior football teams to just rookies
- Reworked the global deletion options to provide for some more customization
- Added an "Options" section at the bottom to allow users to set up the editor to their liking
---- The option to auto "Temp Save" <-- for Tbird
---- The option to have the player list view put first names first or last names first
- I added all Division-I through Division-III college football teams (I think)
---- I am aware that this may result in a lot of unrealistic junior football teams when randomly assigning (like, just as many pros form D-III schools as D-I), but I have an idea for working with this more in the future

THINGS THAT DO NOT WORK:
- Currently, anything that is "greyed out" is there because I plan on doing work on it in the future, but it not accessible right now. It's easier to add the structure when adding other things, so that's why it's in the program.
- I have the ability to sort/global edit "retired players," but that currently doesn't do anything (for the same reason as above)

When using this program, clicking the "Temp Save" button saves the data on the current selection to the program, but not the database. To make all changes permanent (aka, save them to the database), goto Database --> Save.

I am aware of the current list of suggestions/addons and am working as fast as I can to incotperate everything. Just a heads up, though, anything involving extracting/importing is easy code, but takes a LOT of time setting up the correct format. So, those types of functions will come around later.

Goodluck and Enjoy!

Max FB Database Editor v 1.3

I sent you and E-mail JD.....I should have looked here first....I'm glad you have the now, You can see what were all talking about first hand>>>>>>

jdhalfrack -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/5/2007 2:30:25 PM)

Okay, someone sent me this message:
quote:

I am getting an 380 runtime error with the editor and it crashes. Just
wanted you to know, I'm using 1.3 and never had a problem with the
other versions.

A few questions to everyone about this:

- Is anyone else getting this error?

- What are you doing when this error occurs?

- Is "Auto Temp Save" on? (I had run into a few errors with this, but thought I fixed them all)

- Did anyone get this error before version 1.3?

Thanks.

JD

I don't think auto temp save was on. I was editing weight and height of the kickers. Everything else was already edited so I did not lose much....Thanks

MAF -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/5/2007 10:36:09 PM)

JD,

In the attached file, here is an error I received when I tried to save the database after editing the name of a rookie player.

Okay, I know what that means. It means that one of your players that you editted you either accidentally, or purposely, entered nothing into the player's junior college field. by nothing, I literally mean "". No space or anything. The program I made doesn't really care, but the database needs at least 1 text character or it gets real pissed off. I will add a safety check for that in the future versions. Sorry!

FYI, that will be the case in any field where the text entered is "".

As far as your problem, simmer, I can't seem to replicate your error. I've tried to do 100 tihngs to make the program mess up, and it just wont do it. Have you run into this problem again since you reported it last?

JD

<EDIT> I will say this: looking at the editor on someone else's computer makes me realize how nice looking it really is [:)]. I mean, not to blow my own horn, but...

simmer -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/6/2007 1:46:58 AM)

It's Ok now. Now I'm trying to edit the players so their competitive.....I cant seem to find a happy medium.... Either the games are all defensive with scores of 3-2 or a power offense scores 55 points and the RB has 300 Yds rushing, and the QB has 500 yds passing[&:]

MAF -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/6/2007 2:51:41 AM)

I was able to correct that error. Now, it's displaying the error:

"Field 'Players.LeaguePlayed' cannot be a zero-length string."

That's weird... I don't even let you edit that field...
Regardless I took care of that too. That way, in case if it does get changed, it will save correctly.

jdhalfrack -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/6/2007 6:20:28 AM)

Oh man, I just reworked the "random junior football" option. It's sweet. You can now chose from all 719 college football teams in all levels (D-IA, D-IAA, D-II, D-III, and even NAIA).  And, you can set the level of randomness for each division.  So, you could make it chose 90% from D-IA, 8% D-IAA, 1% D-II, 1%, D-III, 0% NAIA.  It's pretty sweet (if I do say so). Now, onto some suggestions and questions for version 1.4:

Very Nice Job on this Editor, its so much easier[:)] Any Chance of changing Skin and Faces?

From what I can tell, there are only 4 options for skin (pasty white, white with arm bands, tan, and dark).  Am I correct?  Also, could a person add more options by making more skin files?  The same questions for faces.

Okay, after I get that answered I can release version 1.4 (not as big of a jump as 1.2 to 1.3).  I think after that, I will be able to start work on exporting stuff which would be a bigger jump, and take some time.  This is why I want to perfect the version 1.x's.  As I work on the export functions, I may still release minor updates (quick fixes and stuff), but I think version 1.4 basically covers the ajority of player editting (which was what people really wanted right away).

JD

Tbird -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/6/2007 8:10:13 AM)

Yeah you can add more skins, faces, and hands
they just need to have the same numbers to avoid having bi-racial players

like H3.hand.bmp, S3.skin.bmp, and F3.face.bmp cuz the game assigns those files randomly from time to time [8D]

garysorrell -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/6/2007 1:22:11 PM)

JD, I was wondering if 'None' and 'Semi-Pro' should be added to the list for Junior Football?

I know both are rare, but I think Simeon Rice only played Semi Pro ball, never went to college. It does happen.

Oh, and thanks for the awesome work.

Frank Brickowski -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/6/2007 2:34:31 PM)

Simeon Rice played for the Illini with kevin hardy, dana howard. Good defense. John Holecek too.

Oh yeah, duh. I'm suprised I didn't notice that. Anyway, I added "NONE" and "Semi-Pro" to the options, anyway.

garysorrell -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/7/2007 3:03:17 AM)

Oh well, I know Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristoferson played 'Semi-Pro' ball :-)

As noted, Rice DID play college ball. Eric Swann never did, though, nor did Carlton Haselrig (pretty good guard for the Steelers for awhile in the 90's.) I don't even know if Swann went to college...Haselrig did, but they were a tiny school that didn't even have a football team.

garysorrell -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/7/2007 3:18:32 AM)

Im a Steeler fan, shame on me for not getting Haselrig.

I think it was Eric Swann I was thinking of. Simeon was drafted by the Cardinals if I remember correctly, Eric also played for the Cards.

Right team, wrong player

Thanks, RedWolf. I'm doing my best! [;)]

And, just so you all know a little about me and why it may take me some time between releasing versions:

First, the time issue... As a lot of you know, both me and my wife are school teachers. So, during the school year (mainly September through May) I get fairly busy. On top of that, we are both coaching JV girls volleyball (which just ended) and JV girl basketball (just starting) at my wife's school. And I coach JV Scholastic Bowl and assist caoch Varsity Scholastic Bowl at my school. This wipes away most of our evenings from October through February/March. During the fall, the greatest sport of all time (football) at the greatest level (college) takes up most my weekends. My wife and I and her family have gotten season tickets to the Illini football games for the last 4 or 5 years. On top of that, we try to go to some close away games, too. So, Saturdays are pretty much taken up. (Not to mention the 5 or 6 basketball games we end up going to).

Second, the ability issue. A lot of you may NOT know this, but before May of this year, I had no clue how to program anything with visual basic (or really any language). I basically self taught myself how to program so I could make Madden editors (some of which flopped, and some of which people really enjoyed). So, there are still many requests/suggestions that I would like to add, but just don't have the ability as of yet to do so. So, I will spend a few hours trying to learn little ins and outs of VB6 when people ask me to do something that I don't know how to do.

So, why am I telling you all this? Well, just because I feel bad that I may take a couple of weeks to get stuff done (I haven't taken that long yet between versions, but I will soon, I promise... [:(]). I know you guys enjoy the program, and I enjoy making it! I just want you all to be aware.

Anyway, keep enjoying that editor! [:)]

JD

Marauders -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/9/2007 2:13:30 AM)

Thank you for the update and background information, JD.

As always, we want it done yesterday. [;)]

Marauders -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/9/2007 2:20:22 AM)

JD, there is a retired field for players.

Could you add a "view retired players" option and allow players to be retired or unretired in a future version of the MaxFB Database Editor?  It would be helpful.

armyofone -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/9/2007 3:24:58 AM)

JD,

You've already exceeded anything expected.  Just reading your recent post, your life sounds extremely busy.  But the part of self teaching yourself to program, thats awesome.  I wish I had that kind of patience.

I look forward to your progress in the months to follow.

jdhalfrack -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/10/2007 5:43:00 AM)

Okay, sorry about this question. I know I've asked this kind of before, but I'm trying to figure this out for my editor.

When it comes to skin, faces, goves, hands, etc... you can make your own files.  That much I understand.  I just need to know if all files need to be in the format "s#.skin.bmp" etc... and if there is a limit.

Thanks!

JD

BigSmooth -> RE: [UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.3 (11/10/2007 5:52:30 PM)

I'm hoping you can put the ability to make trades into the editor. That is really needed.
