Steve Petersen -> Operation Dickens: Monte Casino (11/8/2007 6:50:33 PM)

Having a blast playing this scenario by E-mail with a friend of mine. I am ANZACs.

This scenario is 34 turns, and I now understand why. The terrain is very difficult and it takes a long time to get anywhere. We are about on turn 20 and my Crocodiles are just now emerging from the town. I have swept about 1/2 my armor across the Rapido and am making my way (against some resistance from Panzers) across the fields on the bottom of the map. My infantry is slowly getting across the center of the map and I have hit the cliffs at Casino (doh! didn't notice them until too late.) I am moving them slowly around to the road up the hill. Using a lot of smoke and artillery to enable my movement. My major concern now is the 88s near the bottom of the map. I don't have any infantry near there to deal with them and I will have to try to suppress them with artillery, but have no way to test that suppression without exposing my armor. I may sit and wait for in infantry to work its way there then advance with the armor.

The other half of my armor is accompanying the assault on Casino proper. I am getting a good account from my arty.

Anyone got any advice? I have asked my opponent not to clean out the wine cellar in the abbey before I get there.
