trollelite -> THE RAINMAKER == trollelite(A) vs. snip (J) scenario 160 (11/11/2007 3:02:43 PM)

This is another pbem using scenario 160. The only change is J7W shinden now uses only 1 engine instead of original 2. My honorable opponent declined my offer of let Reppu and Shinden be produced one year earlier....[:)]

As first turn, Japs is allowed to make anything that they see suitable. Allies is allowed to move TF Lexinton, Enterprise, Repulse, plus 2 Asia Fleet cruisers (Marblehead command not changed).

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: THE RAINMAKER == trollelite(A) vs. snip (J) scenario 160 (11/11/2007 3:04:38 PM)

All in all, POW is as usual, serves as wave breaker henceforth.... And I am afraid her demise from 12 torpedos should set a record.  For all you POW Fan Boys,  her survivability is definitely  better than Yamato,  which could never  withstand more than 7 torpedos... [:D]

Marblehead and 10 submarines in Manila gone too. However, the result of first day cannot be said as very good for Japanese, save the PH strike.

trollelite -> RE: Day of Infamy (11/16/2007 5:29:59 PM)

Unfortunately my opponent follow the usual way of attacking Luzon first. IMO this is the best of way of hand over the initiative to allies as early as 1941 and in the mean time ensure the war would end before 1944...

Hitler moved to South, instead of Moscow... He at least secured the food and other resource of Ukraine, and destroyed large amount of enemy army in a relative short time.  By moving to Luzon, you secured practically nothing, and cannot hope to destroy any amount of allies in several weeks, if not months...

trollelite -> Our houserule (11/16/2007 8:50:39 PM)

Regard to 4-e

1.No 4-engine bomb under 15000 feet, except for british 4-e squadrons (FE) ( they use a single 4000 lb bomb), this only apply to the mission of : anti-ship, airfield or port attack, ground attack, city attack

2.no B-29 under 20000

3.no B-29 anti-ship

4. bombers must be below 30,000 to prevent ueber ceiling.

Regard to strategical bombing and night bombing

4.no strategy bomb on resource under 100, and any other thing (oil, heavy industry, aircraft factory,etc) under 50

5 strategical bomb must be done by level bombers, and the altitude not below 10000, for 4-e see above.

5. no night mission except for night fighter and Patrol boat units. Any side could convert normal bomber unit to night bomber unit. To do so, these squadron first have to be announced, after this, they act as night units and cannot henceforce be given day missions and cannot be converted back.

Regard to PT, asw and AG and AK

6 PT not allowed for both sides, current PTs must be disbanded to port .

7.Allied asw group not exceed 6 ships, no restriction to japanese.

8.Any ag and ak in a port hex, so long as they are not disbanded in port, must be combined in one TF. Except those ag and ak that are loaded with troopers ( this is to prevent multiple single ak/ag tf shield the port from naval bombardement)

Regard to soviet and china and other area restriction

9.No allied units (land, naval or air) can enter soviet territory.

10. Except initial chinese exp.force, only 2 other chinese corps could be changed to southeast asia command and be able to fight in burma and india. There is no restriction to support units, however. Those 2 corps should be announced.

11.chinese forces under china command can fight in manchuria, korea,taiwan, vietnam, but not siam, burma,DEI,or india, etc.

12,Philippine could only be landed on US and local forces.

13. No allied offensive action in northern pacific before soviet enter war. They can take back any amercian territory occupied by japanese, however.

Regard to carrier aviation

14. No US corsair units on board carriers before 1, Jan, 1945. There is no restriction to British Corsair units. If Japanese ever use kamikaze before 1945, this restriction would be removed.

15. Japanese can only use those aircrafts designed for carrier, such as N1K1-J or J2M are not allowed. Submarines have only 2 aircraft to choose from. E14A Glen or M6A1

Regard to respawn

16. Only 6 carriers, 12 cruisers can be reconstructed by allied. Of these, 2 should be used to replace australian cruisers and not allowed to use on US units (NO new Zealand ships replacement). Only Heavy cruisers and american "10000-tons" light cruiser could be replaced. Those reconstruced ships should be announced before enter service.

Regard to sub-landing and air-borne

17. Only jap airborne unit and allied airbone ( regiment or below size) and raider unit could be sub-landed.

18. Any airbone unit cannot air-assualt multiple target in the same turn. One target every turn for one single unit. However, they could do that in different turns.

trollelite -> RE: Our houserule (11/16/2007 8:54:42 PM)

My opponnet refused some other conceding proposed by me, or take full advantage of first non-history turn. He perhaps think me too arrogant. It's nothing to do with arrogant. My partner seems not aware Japs simply too weak. Hopefully he would realize that later.

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Our houserule (11/17/2007 2:13:26 AM)

Hi. I think, setting the HRs, you have to consider that Japan is weak only in the long run. The objective for a japanese player is to get the autovictory in 1.1.43, or on the next stage at maximum.
Lots of restrictions to the allies won't let Japan win the war anyway. The war is won is you do better than history and the autovictory is the objective in this sense.
The best of these HR imho is the one that restrict the night bombing, which is defentely a major flaw of the game.
I have some concerns also about the strategic bombing issue...why limiting to the places which have at least 100 resources?

trollelite -> RE: Our houserule (11/17/2007 2:19:56 AM)

I don't care points, as I already told you, I quit only after 6 major cities are captured. The points is no use to me, I don't care about auto victory a nickle. The HR is not to make Jap win the war, just adjust something not quite right in engine and database.

100 resource is because such things are diverse, you never entirely burn them down by bombing. Not even in vietnam war.

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Our houserule (11/17/2007 10:00:34 AM)

I see. However i do not agree much. Resources produces far too much supply in witp and by this rule you guarantee a constant supply level to a base in which resources are present, so not forcing japan to supply it by ship-transports.
Anyway, i recognize that this doesn't change much the course of a war.

For what concerns Autovictory, points are a abstraction of how well you're doing. IMHO they're "morally" important. Let's say that the autovictory rappresents the allies forced to give up when facing the total annihilation of their forces.

trollelite -> RE: Our houserule (11/17/2007 6:11:55 PM)

Note on Battle of Pearl Harbor:

snip sailed his reduced KB at full speed to west after 1 day of bombing. It's wise to do so, as he may realized the not-full-out-of-action airfield still poses a threat, and the position of US carriers is unknown. Anyway, he achieved strategical target with 4 carriers, saving another two for immediate use in DEI. It's unwise to risk carrier even further for trivial target such as trying sink one or two more US battleships.

But, the presence of KB in central Pacific is still not fully utilized, it would be better if Japanese try to capture several island bases with KB's help. After these days KB definitely needed to support DEI Campaign.

trollelite -> Note (11/17/2007 6:17:12 PM)

Note on deployment of IJN submarine force

The stock's default deployment is: large I type around Hawaii, serving as live training target for packs of Catalina, the medium I type support DEI campaign, the smaller Ro type patorl the south Pacific area. I would like to see how snip deploy his submarines.

trollelite -> First japanese trouble (12/10/2007 11:57:57 PM)

13, Dec, 1941

The war is somewhat hotter, and Japanese side begins to make blunders.

In Luzon, 16th IJA Division enters Lucena, they probably only expect an empty city, and in the end find themselves facing nearly 40,000 well-ready allies...[:D]

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 22426 troops, 105 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 503

Defending force 36129 troops, 216 guns, 3 vehicles, Assault Value = 708

Japanese max assault: 523 - adjusted assault: 76

Allied max defense: 773 - adjusted defense: 352

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
1233 casualties reported
Guns lost 12

Allied ground losses:
305 casualties reported
Guns lost 6

In Kuching, IJN bombardment TF enter the harbor before minelayer submarine O-19 could do her dirty work, so no Jap ship is mined, and they nearly knocked all coastal guns out. However, O-19 arrived just in time to ambush retreating Japanese and put a fish into destroyer Akatsuki, now with nearest level 4 harbor more than 400 sm away, this ship is in serious trouble....

cantona2 -> RE: First japanese trouble (12/11/2007 12:02:00 AM)

Good luck in this one Trollelite.

EOS in RHS, as someone said above is ascen you might enjoy BTW

trollelite -> RE: First japanese trouble (12/14/2007 1:47:30 AM)

snip suffers another setback, when his G3Ms and B5Ns happily slaught allies MSW and ML in Balikpapan with zero escort, several dutch and british torpedo bombers slip into Tarakan and find the flagship of IJN Southern Exp. Fleet, the heavy cruiser Chokai, only defended by 3 wretched Nate! Can u believe that.....

Day Air attack on TF, near Tarakan at 34,60

Japanese aircraft
Ki-27 Nate x 3

Allied aircraft
Swordfish x 3
T.IVa x 2

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
Swordfish: 3 damaged

Japanese Ships
DD Sagiri
CA Chokai, Torpedo hits 1,  on fire,  heavy damage

And a dutch 450mm torpedo just put this ship out of action for the during of DEI campaign, if she survives at all...

Snip sailed a destroyer squadron into Malacca strait, and seems to be quite proud of that feat.... Simply crazy move...

The struggle for Balikpapan begins, IJA 35th Brigade already on shore. And Mini KB just arrived to support invasion--- without heavy cruiser or battleship support, another reckless move...

BC Repulse was hit by 2 aerial torpedos earlier (sys 22, float 44, small fire), so Japs get uphand in daytime action thanks to their superior 8 inch firepower. However, both Nachi class heavy cruisers are beyond repair in southern waters, and the Fubuki class destroyer is doomed.

trollelite -> RE: First japanese trouble (12/21/2007 2:43:05 AM)

IJN's main surface combat vessel is its heavy cruisers. All together 18 of them. However, the 4 Kakos are too weak for anything good, and would be easily overgunned by allied CA. So only 14 effective ships.  IJN still has some good battleships and an 24 knot battleline, however, they drink too much fuel oil, more than that in regard with to their combat value.

IJN 5.5'' CL are actually destroyer leaders, for they could not defeat any allies CL in a gun action, and every allies CL (including the vintage Adeleider or Sumantra) could easily gun down a entire group of them. Pity. IJN doesn't have any real light cruisers, at least not under this game engine.
