Erik Rutins -> If you are having trouble with the Help files under Vista (11/11/2007 5:04:20 PM)

Thanks to Matt Penfold for this tip:

As people have said the help format used in previous versions of Windows has changed for Vista, and Microsoft if their wisdom failed to put in any backwards compatibility support. There is some good news though, and that is they have seen the error of their ways and released an update that allows the old style help to be used under Vista.

The fix can be found here:

I can access the help file on BGNW but not the scenario notes. Are these files still present. I've tried downloading as above but apparently I've already done this at a previous time. I just get an error saying notes file not available

This is a simple file management problem that can be easily fixed by copying the .HLP files from the main Game folder (i.e. Gettysburg) into the the individual module folders (i.e. GB, MR, PC, etc.)

If we ever get another update for this series, it would be nice if this was already done by the installer.

The Mook Man -> RE: If you are having trouble with the Help files under Vista (4/25/2011 5:21:11 PM)

Thanks for that tip.  I also noted that the Parameter Data in some of the scenarios does not match the actual 'fighting' results.  But, I did see that some of the other Notes files do have the correct Parameter Data(in Scenario Notes under Help).  I didn't know that just copying the files into the correct sub file would solve the issue - thanks again.

How about in Windows 7? I tried the above suggestion and it's still not loading properly, nor when I click on the file. Any advice?

Necro-ing an old thread. What about for Windows 10 users? It looks like Help files might be lost to more modern computers :( The mystery of how command radius size may never be answered!

Sorry that this is for an old game, but making a request that someone post up the Help file contents which are only three files, but I can't find anywhere to open .HLP anymore:
1) General Help
2) Leader handbook
3) Scenario Notes

Also if anyone knows where the info is for the various Optional Rules which can be selected or can post them here - that would be great!!

Thanks in advance fellow Civil War gamers!

Found the Optional Rules descriptions in 12.0 of the manual.
