Just got this game last week, and so far I'm loving it! But I have a couple questions:

1. Is there anything I can do to quell unrest, or slow it's spread? I took a couple provinces in SE Missouri, I understand their unrest, but it is spreading into S. Illinois and along the Mississippi river. Is there anything I can do? does garrisoning help?

2. I figured out how to load a division up for an amphibious assault, but my attack at Savannah didn't go well (no artillery means a hopeless siege). But I can't seem to load my troops back on the ships! Is there a way to do that, or are amphibious missions one-way only?

Funny. I've never tried to put troops back on their ships, so I don't know for a fact that it can be done. If they're defeated then they'll automatically retreat, but that's probably not the answer you're looking for...

As for unrest, the presence of brigades has a chance to quell the violence, so send some of your forces there.

Eric confirms what I was suspecting -- that you can't withdraw your amphibious invasion. So only try one if you think you've got a good shot at winning! (When you think of it, in the Civil War the only thing close to this in terms of an orderly departure by boat was when McClellan had to take his army back to the D.C. area after the Seven Days' Battles.)

Gil is almost right. You can unload an amphibious invasion force into any coastal province - but to load them back onto ships you need to capture a port. And make sure you know which province the port is in. Just remember ports are always cities. A province w/o a city never has a port even though it may look like there is a port icon (anchor) in the province. For instance, there appears to be a port in the province of Halifax in NC but it is actually for the city of Raleigh which appears to be in the Greensborough (inland) province but is actually in the Neuse river province.
