Look about halfway down to this AAR to see a supply interdiction. Supply lines are created across water to transfer supply and production. You can also physically carry units in ships. Carried units are not subject to AS but can be attacked. However, carrying units is much slower. AS will also interdict transfers by sea. This is particularly nasty as you can lose both the units and the cargo ships that are providing the carrying capacity. The other player does not know where the supply lines are. Instead, you have to guess based on the game situation (e.g., in Europe 1939, most Italian supply initial comes from Rome and goes to the HQ in Albania and Tripoli). You then position your AS units (subs, ships, and planes) appropriately and see if you get any damage next turn. AS can be a real headache in scenarios with a lot of sea (e.g., Pacific War) as there is a lot of space for subs to hide. A good player will carefully think about attack and defending supply lines.
