Huib -> question 3rd Armored Division (11/17/2007 12:59:07 PM)

Perhaps someone with a big WW2 library around here...??
I need to know the composition of CCA US 3rd Armored Division in the 2nd half of September 1944. Been looking for this in my own sources and on the net for a week now and can't find it. Did find how CCB was made up with TF King/Mills and TF Lovelady, but it would be nice to have info on CCA (and hence CCR) as well.

any help greatly appreciated

Huib

Home page of combat command a 3rd armored division

http://home.earthlink.net/~3adspearhead/CCAH.html

The TOE of CCA is'

32nd armored regiment (- 1 armored battalion)
83rd armored recon
67 armored artillery battalion
486th anti-aircraft battalion

Hi

I think the TOE was pretty stable as US commanders during WW2 did not like to split units that had worked or trained together so I think this should be pretty accurate..there might be small changes in attached units and additional support units but tthe whole thing would be built around the 32 armored rgt

COMPONENT UNITS: Hq Co; Service Co; Combat Command A; Combat Command B; 36 Armd Inf Regt; 32 and 33 Armored regiments; 23 Armored Engineer Bn; 83 Armored Rcn Bn; 143 Armored Signal Co; Division Artillery: 54, 67, and 391 Armored FA Bns; Division Trains: 3d Ordnance Maintenance Bn, 45th Armored Medical Bn, Supply Bn and MP Platoon.

Thanks for the help

Just need to know which Bn of Armd Rgt 32 was rotated into CCA at that time, which Engineer unit, which unit from 703rd TD and which part of the Armored Infantry.
... If I can't find I'll just go for the general... The composition of Combat Command "A" in Europe normally consisted of the 32nd Armored Regiment, less one battalion; the 67th Armored Field Artillery Battalion; one battalion of the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment; one battery of the 486th Armored Anti-Aircraft Battalion; one company of the 2trd Armored Engineer Battalion; one company of the 703rd Tank Destroyer Battalion; one company of the 45th Armored Medical Battalion, and one company of the 3rd Armored Division Maintenance Battalion.
sorry for being a nuisance...
