Erik Rutins -> Battleground Physical Versions Now Available! (11/21/2007 10:56:42 PM)

Hi Everyone,

We just set the physical versions (i.e. boxed copy or boxed copy + download) of Battleground Civil War and Battleground Napoleonic Wars live. Thanks for your patience with these. We expect to have stock of these in our warehouse by December 14th, so we don't advise using expedited shipping if you want them before then as it won't change the back-order portion of the delay. We will ship out as soon as they are in stock. If you don't see the physical versions this instant, the store cache may still be clearing, so check back in an hour or two.

Please note that we have also added new Physical Discount Bundles if you purchase the physical versions of both products together in the same order.

Regards,

- Erik

Great news! [:D]

I'll be placing my order in the next day or two.

Hello,

I am wondering whether anyone knows about the compatibility of this Matrix version of John Tiller's Civil War games with the versions put out by HPS and BG? My question is specifically in regard to playing the games by E-mail (PBEM). If I purchase the Matrix version (which sounds like a really good deal) will I be able to PBEM against someone who owns the HPS version? I hope someone has the answer.

Sincerly,
Douglas E. Shaw

Our releases are compatible with the older TalonSoft versions. The HPS releases are entirely different games and are not compatible with ours.

Not very different, but only in some ways. Totally incompatible, but not hugely different - you can pick up how to play one from the other.

Erik:

I am trying to place an order for both BG Civil War and BG Napoleonic Wars but am encountering difficulties.

I can successfully select the Civil War Digital Download + Physical Shipment for a combined price of $39.99.

But when I try to do the same for Napoleonic Wars (selecting the combo button), the resulting order screen lists BG Nap Digital Download and BG Nap Physical Shipment as separate line items, each at $39.99.

In other words, I can do the CW DD+PS combo, but I can't do the same for the NW DD+PS combo.

So, the total order comes to

$39.99 BG CW DD+PS
3.99 EDS
39.99 BG NW DD
39.99 BG NW PS
---------
$123.96

It's the last two items I want to combine, but the system won't allow me, despite repeated attempts and restarts.

I'd like to post a screen shot, but I don't know how to do that (and I don't want to take the trouble to find out).

So, no order for me until you can fix this latest glitch. [:(]

Berto,

There is no DD + PS combo for the exact reason that the store can't handle it. You can get either the download version combo or the physical version combo, but not a download+physical combo. It's just a technical limitation in the store that we have to work around.

Regards,

- Erik

Erik:

Note that I am aware the discounted bundle buying both game packs is unavailable for Physical Shipment + Digital Download. I'm not referring to that; I am talking of undiscounted separate orders for CW & NW.

For a third time, just now, I attempted to place an order, but in different sequence. I went to the BG Napoleonic Wars order screen first this time, selected the button "Physical Shipment Plus Download" for $39.99.

On the subsequent Shopping Cart Screen it then shows

NW Digital Download 39.99
NW Physical Shipment 39.99
EDS 3.99
SUBTOTAL 83.97

Okay, that's not what I want. Cancel. Retry the exact same steps, but this time with BG Civil War. For CW, select the button "Physical Shipment Plus Download" for $39.99.

On the subsequent Shopping Cart Screen it then shows

CS Digital Download 39.99
CW Physical Shipment Included
EDS 3.99
SUBTOTAL 43.98

See the difference? Selecting the exact same button on each order screen, why does CW give me a combo DD+PS for $39.99, while NW gives me two separate items, DD and a distinctly separate PS, for twice the cost of the CW product?

In the past several months, I've bought several Matrix games, DD + PS combo, for the same price as DD alone, or PS alone (typically 39.99, or 49.99, whatever).

For the life of me, it appears that your BG Napoleonic Wars product is the sole exception, that for it alone "there is no DD + PS combo." I don't understand why I should be paying twice the price for NW over CW.

Thanks Erik. That's what I wanted to know.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Battleground Physical Versions Now Available! (11/24/2007 6:46:40 AM)

Berto,

Sorry, what I meant by "no DD+PS combo" was a discount combo that includes both games. I understand your problem now, it sounds like something in one of the DD+PS versions is broken as far as how the store sees it. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to get anyone to fix that until Monday morning. I appreciate the report and I'm sorry we can't resolve this sooner, if you find a work-around please let me know.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks, Erik, the BG Napoleonic Wars DD+PS combo problem was fixed, and I finally ordered, downloaded, installed (but wasn't able to update--save that for another day) both BG CW & NW earlier this afternoon.

My, what a rush it was to revisit these classic games on my newer, faster Win XP system (I have most of them, in their TalonSoft incarnations, installed on an older, underpowered Win ME system here).

Good times ahead... [:D]
