RolandRahn_MatrixForum -> Missing scenario in GIUK Designer III (11/24/2007 10:35:24 PM)

Hi!

First of all: Many thanks for the overhaul of this classic game!

Now, there is something that is missing with each new version:
GIUK Designer series III scenarios 11 and 12.
Number 11 "Run from the beach" seems to be OK.
But Number 12 - Exodus - seems to be identical to 11. The scenarios description differes from 11, but the scenario itself seems to be identical.
And it absolutely doesn't go with the description - there are no 3 helicopters with which to save the USSR goverment.

It is a little unfair to post this now since this was already the case with earlier versions. Nonetheless, it would IMHO be better to remove scenario 12 or to try to find the correct original scenario (next to impossible after more than 10 years).

Best regards,
Roland (currently fighting the EC2003 war in the mediterrain.....[:D])

Nice catch, I've never noticed that.  Do you happen to have a version of HDS9.res and HDS9.rsr that doesn't have the issue?

No, unfortunately not. I know that this problem already existed with previous versions. I fear that this scenario has never been published with any version of Harpoon, so that it is lost [:(].

Best regards and many thanks for your quick reaction,

Roland (back to the med.....)

I remember that this mistake already existed in WinHarp. Weird that nobody noticed it so far.

On the other hand, I am happy that the screwed-up database in the original NACV battleset was fixed. Although, playing USSR it was fun to have intelligence gathering trawlers using the stats of the Kirov class... [8D]

I always wondered why there would be 2-3 random Kirov classes all alone off the coast of the US in lots of the scenarios. Made for some interesting starts.

Thanks to help from Jim_H, who was able to check the "Exodus" scenario found in his v1.55b version of Harpoon Classic, it looks like this scenario was buggered up from the beginning, folks.

Perhaps an enterprising HCE player will 'remake' this scenario into what it might have been. [;)]

I am one of the original Harpoon players from the 1980s and bought all the original games and expansions on floppies, including I think the HDS III set. These floppies are in storage somewhere in my house or shed and I'm happy to search them out if there is a chance that the scenario in question will be there in an accurate state.

Naturally there is a fair chance that the floppies are now corrupt but I will have a look this coming weekend.

By all means, have a look if you get the opportunity.
