dyoox01 -> What game is similar to Panzer general (11/28/2007 5:17:52 PM)

Hi guys,

I hope some of you can help me find a game similar to Panzer General. I've tried some of the strategy/war games here but I haven't found one that was as fun to play as the Panzer general series.

Is there something that is similar to Panzer General? Advance Tactics looks interesting but I wasn't sure how it compared to Panzer general. Can a unit be completely destroyed in Advanced tactics? I found that in some games I can't really destroy a unit, they just become "stuck" unable to move or do anything.

I hope this makes sense.

Yes, in AT a unit can be completely destroyed.

AT is as much as PG, IMHO.

Erik Rutins -> RE: What game is similar to Panzer general (11/28/2007 7:15:21 PM)

You should take a look at Commander: Europe at War as well. I highly recommend Advanced Tactics, but CEAW is somewhat more similar to PG.

Panzer Tactics DS for the Nintendo DS is supposed to be a very good Panzer General clone.

Get Advanced Tactics (I higher recommend it over Erik) it's going to give you more play value and longevity than CEAW and I would also suggest the Tiller Campaign Series bundle for WWII that comes with West Front, East Front and Rising Sun Gold and ALL the expansions and updates along with it. You get those two games and you won't need anymore for a long time. ;)  Plus the price is right on both of them. You're getting so many games for your buck you'll think it was christmas....oh wait it is nearly christmas. ;)

All very sensible, but the fact remains Commander : Europe at War is the closest game to Panzer General - and pretty good too.

But, it's just ONE game and the OP could get a WHOLE LOT MORE out of going with Advanced Tactics and/or Tillers Campaign series and get the same "simple" easy to play hard to master games out of them. They aren't PG exact, but, the principles of PG is in both of them. Simple Easy Enjoyable doesn't take a lifetime to play fun. ;)

TheHellPatrol -> RE: What game is similar to Panzer general (11/28/2007 10:39:19 PM)

If you loved Panzer General as much as i did then Commander: Europe At War is the game to buy. It IS PG although spruced up for todays PC's.

Thanks for the input guys.  I think I will be  Commander: Europe At War as an early Crhistmas present for me.  Right now I'm too busy with harpoon.  I dont think I can handle both  Commander: Europe At War and advacned tactics.

Well before you purchase any of the good recommendations from above, you owe it to yourself to actually try the demo of the premier game of the group, Strategic Command Weapons and Warfare.

JudgeDredd -> RE: What game is similar to Panzer general (11/28/2007 11:08:43 PM)

If you want a modern PG, then get Commander Europe At War.

I'm still having great fun with it and I've had it months.

Advanced Strategic Command might fill your order. It's Battle Isle clone though, but since BI itself plays very much like PG, it shouldn't be much a problem. Game is free too.

Would you like to know more?

cdbeck -> RE: What game is similar to Panzer general (11/28/2007 11:23:56 PM)

I own both C:EaW and Advanced Tactics. C:EaW, like everyone above said, is very very similar to Panzer General (it really is nearly the same game stylistically). But as far as gameplay goes, Advanced Tactics is the most fun of those listed above. It has so much gameplay, so much value, and so much strategy, that is really is a great game, especially for the price.

There really is no comparison between AT and Commander.. AT is truly a great game, and Commander is a good game.

JudgeDredd -> RE: What game is similar to Panzer general (11/29/2007 10:14:26 AM)

Horses for courses...I couldn't get on with AT.

Was great at first, being a new game but it quickly faded for me.

I didn't like the graphics and I found the random generator to be even more of a put off with extreme random names for forces, units and cities.

I expect when I have time to pick up the manual and get right into it it might change...but even if that DOES happen, I probably won't use the random generator....way, way too abstract for me. I like to think I'm fighting on this planet.

Wasn't for me, I'm afraid. B ut there are PLENTY that disagree.

A free choice is LGeneral There is a windows version as well as the Linux. It is a nice clone of the original PG.
