john688 -> Great game and a couple of questions (11/30/2007 8:28:56 PM)

Wow, I just got a new computer that can run Crysis smooth as silk and all I want to play is Harpoon CE [&o]
Anyway a couple of questions,
I set my ASW helos to search in the formation editor and pick up a sub. Is there a way of gaining control of the helos to micromanage them,if I delete their patrol in the FE,they fly back and I have to wait 40 min to launch them again.

also, is there a way to move a waypoint.

Thanks,
John

Sure. In your Unit map, find the helo for which you want to take manual control. Say, for example, you find that its AE11 (from carrier group AEC).

Click the Reports button on the top task bar and select 'Order of Battle'.

Find your group AEC in the left hand list of all friendly assets. All of AEC's component units will be listed on the right. Your formation patrols, including the helo AE11, will be at the bottom of the list.

Now, admittedly, it gets a bit odd here, so bear with me.

Determine where in the list your helo AE11 falls. This ordering will match the order you see when you click the 'Orders' task bar button and then select 'Split Group'.

There are no unit names (like AE11) in this list. (Perhaps something for the wish list if its possible), but you should be able to find where your desired helo falls in this list. Split it off from AEC, and then you will have manual control in the Group map.

While you're playing the game, not really. You'll have to clear your course and plot a new one.

Thanks for the prompt reply

John,

NefariousKoel -> RE: Great game and a couple of questions (11/30/2007 11:36:21 PM)

If I have any kind of target available, I select Intercept and select the one I'm trying to split.  Once it's on it's way to the target and split from the group, I just give it new orders.

Yes, its much easier to split groups of aircraft than it is to split aircraft out of their formation patrols.

We're talking formation patrols, right? I mean.. if there's a contact, it seems so much easier giving an intercept command on such targets like a sub contact to make the formation patrol helo split off into it's own group. They're free to reign whatever micro-management terror down wherever you want it then.

Note: Could be situational.

Yeah, we were talking formation patrols.

Sorry, just making sure I wasn't misunderstanding. I'm just trying to get from point A to point B with the least amount of input. [;)] I thought the Intercept was pretty quick for splitting something off in the least amount of steps when you could do it. It's good to know the anytime method you mentioned as I likely would never have figured that out anytime soon. [8D] It's a good tip but might take some practice to get instinctive.

Call me crazy but if my ASW patrol in the formation spots a sub, I just click on the intercept button and immediately, I have a list of all ASW assets in the formation and their distance from the target. Simply click on each unit you want to use, and those units are split from the formation and can be used to prosecute the target. The great thing then is your formation will replenish your ASW patrols that you just used! I usually try to use at least one helo with dipping sonar if possible.

Actually, I'm crazy for totally forgetting about the Intercept button. [8|]Thanks, Steve, for pointing it out.
